"He’s always there with grace and a smile!"
By day, he’s a Broker Associate with Better Homes & Gardens Rand Realty in White Plains. He's used to getting calls – a lot of them – with urgent needs to meet home sellers and buyers.

But sometimes his phone rings with a different type of need: an older adult in Westchester County needs to get to a medical appointment, the grocery store, or an exercise class. Whenever these calls come in – about 8-10 times per week – Nick Wolff always answers. And always comes to the rescue.

Nick is amazing. He has long been known for his willingness to do short notice trips,” says Kaysee Long at RideConnect. “He will frequently drop whatever he’s doing at the last minute to help a RideConnect client.”

Nick joined RideConnect’s team of volunteer drivers in 2015. Since then, he has provided 716 rides, driven 9,573 miles, and given 1,368 hours of time to helping his older adult neighbors.

“I view transportation as a basic human need,” he says. “Getting people to the places they need to go – work, shopping, medical appointments, or simply staying connected to family or friends – it’s a real joy for me.”

All the rides Nick provides are free to his riders and all are done in his car. He can choose the days, times, and locations he volunteers and drives. “RideConnect is really a very flexible program and a wonderful way to volunteer for others,” he says. “I don’t want to be paid for my time or my miles,” he continues. “It’s payment enough to see the smiles from those I’m able to help.”

“Without Nick’s help,” says one client rider who uses his services to get to dialysis three times a week, “I probably wouldn’t make most of my doctor appointments. Or I’d have to pay a lot for taxis, which is hard on my fixed income. He’s always there to help with grace and a smile.”

Nick’s dedication to RideConnect and its clients is made clear to us and our clients every week. And in Spring 2019, his selfless work caught the attention of Mayor Mike Spano as well. On Yonkers’ Day of Recognition for National Service on April 3, Nick received a prestigious Community Service Award for his work with RideConnect serving others.
