A Fail-Proof Recipe for Success
My grandmother used to say, "I spent the first half of my life gathering things and the latter part of my life giving them away."

My grandmother was a successful executive with Horton Furniture for most of her working life. When she was younger, she passed up a scholarship to Harvard to focus on her family.

She overcame many serious health crises, including a heart murmur caused by a rheumatic fever that left her bedridden for months as a child. She barely avoided being put in an iron lung with a polio diagnosis. She survived a ruptured brain aneurysm and, at 75, breast cancer.

She was a fighter from the time she was a child until she took her last breath.

My grandmother never got bitter or openly discouraged.
She just became wiser.

One of the things I have that my grandmother left was some of her recipes. She would handwrite the recipe cards and often add humorous notes in the directions.

I treasure those cards and want to share a fail-proof recipe for success that I learned from my grandmother.
I want to challenge you to a gut check.
What exactly are you seeking?
During the week, it is hustle, grind, work, call, sell, lead, perform, do, do more, and do a little more! Every executive strives to succeed. A thriving business seems to be the only option to meet payroll, bills, and demands.

It's clearly laid out in Matthew 6:33 when we are striving and worrying about what we will eat, drink, and wear, and Jesus says, the Father clearly knows you need these things. "Seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

In Secrets of the Kingdom Economy, Paul L. Cuny, International Christian Chamber of Commerce USA Division, writes, "To live productively in this Kingdom Economy today requires a change of thinking on our part." It's really about working in partnership with God.

God gave us free will, but he didn't give us the ability to control the outcomes of our life and our work.

"So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow." (1 Corinthians 3:7)

Paul the Apostle goes on to say each one has a purpose and will be rewarded according to their labor but to build with care and build your foundation on Jesus Christ. If you build your foundation on the things of this world, they will be burned up.
My grandmother had every excuse to throw in the towel, but she didn't—and I'm so thankful. She would stick out her chin and keep pressing forward even when the going got tough.

My grandmother's legacy lives on through her children and grandchildren, and the recipe is fail-proof. God will never fail you nor forsake you!
Speaking of legacy, Lou Holtz is closing the Expo with a talk on legacy.
