Friend,

The holidays are meant to be a time of joy, comfort, and connection. Yet for many of the individuals and families we serve at Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas (VOACC), this season brings more worry than celebration.

While there are signs that the federal government may soon reopen, the uncertainty has already taken a toll. For the men, women, and children we serve, instability in federal support programs only deepens existing hardship. Even if operations resume, many families will still face the lasting effects of lost SNAP benefits, higher living costs, and limited access to basic needs. For parents trying to keep food on the table or ensure their children have gifts to open, this time of year remains especially difficult.

To respond, we have launched our Holiday Gift Card Campaign and are continuing our cherished Adopt A Family program. Together, these efforts help fill the gap for those we serve in our housing, health, and human services programs.

Through these campaigns, there are many ways you can make a difference:

Meet the Jordan Family

Your generosity supports families like the Jordans, who found stability after a long and difficult journey. When Tecumshe Jordan, a single mother of three, lost her home during the pandemic, she and her daughters, Tamara, Athena, and Alicia, moved between shelters and temporary housing, unsure of what would come next. With nowhere left to turn, Tecumshe reached out for help and was connected to VOACC through a local nonprofit. Within two months, she and her girls moved into a safe, three-bedroom apartment through one of our housing program, where they have been thriving ever since.

Last Christmas, through our Adopt A Family program, the Jordans received brand-new beds, a Christmas tree, and gifts that brought joy and comfort back into their home.

Watch Techumshe share in her own words what it meant to be supported by VOACC and givers of hope like you through Adopt A Family.

The need for food, gifts, and holiday cheer remains great across the communities we serve. Your gift today will help families like the Jordans continue to build stability and experience the hope and joy this season should bring.

Please make your gift today, sign up to adopt a family or deliver gift cards by visiting www.voachesapeake.org/adopt-a-family.

Thank you for standing with us. Together, we can bring comfort, joy, and hope to families who might otherwise go without.

Many blessings,

Candace Vanderwater
