Key Issue: Tax and Fiscal Policy
Building a Better Colorado says thank you to everyone who participated in the BBCO dialogue over the past few months. BBCO thinks a better Colorado is possible when everyone is engaged in an honest and constructive conversation about what kind of government they want. If you're interested in the BBCO process, read the Final ReportCOBRT welcomed Reeves Brown, Project Director of Building a Better Colorado, on our Connect and Collaborate radio show last month, and you can listen to the podcast here.
Key Issue: Economic Development
The Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) recently realigned our domestic and international teams to form Global Business Development. Under the direction of Michelle Hadwiger, this newly formed division is responsible for global business recruitment, retention, expansion and foreign direct investment.  Global Business Development will continue to focus on customer outreach, foreign direct investment, and export assistance. This structural change advances Colorado's ability to serve businesses and identify opportunities for investment, trade and growth.
Key Issue: Health and Retirement

Median earnings for women working full-time are less than 80 percent of what men earn according to the Women's Institute for a Secure Retirement. In addition to receiving lower wages, women are more likely than men to leave the workforce while they focus on parenting and caregiving. Also, more women than men work part-time, which can make them ineligible for employer-sponsored savings plans.
For women who don't have access to retirement savings plans at work, the U.S. Department of the Treasury's myRA ® is a great way to start saving. It costs nothing to open an account, there are no fees, and it carries no risk of losing money.  Celebrate Women's History Month by helping people make a little history in their own lives: encourage them to start saving with myRA. Key Issue: Smart Regulation

The DOL  recently introduced a new regulation on businesses paying employees overtime, more than doubling the salary threshold under which employees are required to be given overtime pay for all hours worked beyond the 40 hour workweek. The new rule mandates that all employees who earn less than $50,400 a year are entitled to time-and-a-half pay for their overtime hours (the  current threshold is $23,660). And the new income level is projected to steadily go up each year.  While it sounds like a good way to help working Americans.. Read more

The National Small Business Association has developed a new, more intuitive online  Online Action Center  for small businesses looking to interact with their elected officials. The new site provides small businesses with a host of new Action Alerts, pre-drafted letters which they can personalize and send directly to their Senators or Representatives with just a few clicks of the mouse.

The new site also includes a Congressional Directory where small businesses can access contact information, detailed bios and staff names for their Members of Congress. From Business Roundtable
BRT, Chamber, NAM Express Concern over Committee's Criticism of High-Skilled Immigration

Immigration reforms should help U.S. companies attract and retain the best talent the world, the Business Roundtable, U.S. Chamber of Commerce and National Association of Manufacturers said in a joint statement submitted for a Senate subcommittee hearing, "The Impact of High-Skilled Immigration on U.S. Workers." The groups expressed concern at the apparent attempt by the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration to cast the H-1B visa program in a bad light. "Multiple studies have shown the positive impacts on job creation and wage levels that the H-1B program has for American business and American workers," they wrote.
