Dear Volunteer Corps friends,

As we were all thinking this spring about what kind of Chautauqua season we would have, it was a rather gloomy outlook. But, at the end of the day, the good will of Lakesiders won out. COVID-19 was no match for Lakesiders.

Two things happened:

1. The Lakeside staff did what they do. They took a lemon and made lemonade. Thanks to them, we are enjoying a wonderful Lakeside season, perhaps the best ever because of what could have been. Thanks, Lakeside staff.

2. Then, there is all of you who make up the Lakeside Chautauqua Volunteer Corps. When the Lakeside Chautauqua Foundation Board first began to think about initiating this program, I thought, wouldn’t it be nice to get a few people together to help the Lakeside staff this summer. My first volunteers were Sally DePerro and Jack Allen, our Co-Directors. Once they took over, WOW! Things went from good to great, fast. Here we are, at the beginning of August with over 200 Lakeside volunteers. Thank you, volunteers! Thank you, staff members Alana Tarry and Ashley Huntington! Because of the Lakeside Chautauqua Volunteer Corps, Lakeside will never be the same.

On behalf of the Lakeside Chautauqua Foundation Board, please accept my heartfelt thanks. Let’s finish strong as we end the season and go into the fall. Then, let’s do it all again next season. I pray for God’s richest blessings on each of you and your families.

Gratefully,
Tom Jones
