A Special Message from the

Michigan Conference United Church of Christ

Dear Friends,

The tragic school shooting in Michigan this week has touched the UCC Community in a significant way. Rev. Liz Wilson the pastor of Immanuel Congregational Church shared with us that the church is just blocks from Oxford High School and has been directly impacted by the tragedy. Madisyn Baldwin, 17, the great-granddaughter of church member Holly Graves, was shot and killed in the incident and Phoebe Arther, also a student at Oxford High School, a neighbor and friend of the church was shot and is reportedly still in the hospital.

The senseless violence and resulting heartbreak stuns us and moves us to sadness, prayer and action. I would ask that you remember Madisyn’s family as they grieve their loss and Phoebe and her family as she heals from her injuries. Please remember those injured and those who remain hospitalized. Let us also lift up Immanuel Congregational Church, Rev. Liz Wilson, and the community of Oxford as they seek to be God’s comfort and love in this difficult time.

May the Peace of Christ that passes all understanding be with us and hold us up.

Rev. R. Philip Hart

Transitional Conference Minister
