JUNE 2020—ISSUE 18

Akron Community Foundation believes that empathy and compassion are at the core of our humanity, expressed through our desire to do good and make a difference with meaningful action.
The unrest and protests we’ve seen over the past weeks simply reinforce the inequities and injustice that exist here in our community and across the nation. No one should ever fear for their safety or well-being because of the color of their skin. We pledge our support and embrace all efforts to foster a more inclusive community and deconstruct the systemic and pervasive racism that has plagued our nation for centuries.

Summit County Probate Court was one of 54 local organizations to receive funding during Akron Community Foundation's recent Arts & Culture grant cycle. Their $5,000 grant will  allow underserved and diverse artists to display their work within the Summit County Courthouse, providing respite and enrichment for employees and visitors facing stressful situations.
Annual Meeting & Bert A. Polsky Humanitarian Award
Due to current recommendations to limit the spread of COVID-19, Akron Community Foundation has canceled our annual meeting scheduled for July 16 and the Bert A. Polsky Humanitarian Award dinner scheduled for Oct. 13. We will announce plans for future events at a later date.
In March, Akron Community Foundation established the Community Response Fund for Nonprofits to address emergency needs that arise in Summit and Medina counties related to the COVID-19 outbreak. Since then, the fund has reached nearly $620,000 in assets and distributed more than $365,000 in grants to local nonprofits. The Community Response Fund for Nonprofits is one of four new funds established at the foundation this quarter.
