Statement of Need
As many have become aware, the global prevalence of autism has increased twentyfold since the epidemiologic studies were conducted in the late 1960's (1 in 2500) and by the 2000's prevalence estimates were 1% - 2% of all children.  Reported increases in the number of people receiving services for Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and reports of ASD prevalence estimates that are higher than expected have increased concern among members of the public, underscoring the need for systematic public health monitoring of ASD (CDC 2007) and a need to advance our knowledge of the currently known "best practice" guideline recommendations to follow during the diagnostic process, assessment, and treatment of people with ASD.

Activity Goals
The 2016 ICare4Autism National Conference focuses on personalized medicine and ASD.  This program was designed to create a collaborative forum to enhance knowledge of biomedical research and global autism initiatives.  With this knowledge, researchers, physicians, health care professionals, teachers, and parents can better care for and provide optimal services to people with ASD.  The goal of the conference is for all attendees to increase their awareness of the current advances in diagnosis, research, and treatment of ASD and to provide information on resources they may find valuable and might otherwise not have had access.

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this collaborative forum, participants will be able to:
  • Assess the current understanding of autism spectrum and related disorders in research and practice.
  • Improve understanding of the current biomedical research and experimental therapeutics in Autism spectrum disorder, Prader willi, Fragile X, and Rett's syndromes.
  • Apply standard practice guidelines for the assessment and treatment of people with ASD.
  • Integrate the current diagnostic measures and treatment options for autism spectrum disorder into private practice and/or research developments.

Intended Audience
This activity is intended for researchers and practitioners in genetics, psychiatry, neurology, pediatrics, nursing, psychology, physicians, physician assistants, residents, fellows, medical students and other health care professionals, educators, social workers, individuals with ASD and members of their family.
