Earlier today, Animals’ Angels founder Sonja Meadows had the great honor to speak in front of members of the European Parliament (via video conference) to present the tragic plight of horses caught up in the slaughter industry and to advocate for immediate, meaningful change.

As the only US participant invited to attend the EU’s Intergroup Meeting on the Welfare and Conservation of Animals, Animals’ Angels was given the long sought-after opportunity to address the topic of horse slaughter with influential members of the EU Parliament.

We were truly thrilled to have the chance to advocate for changes that will impact the lives of thousands of horses caught up in the slaughter industry each year.

With a goal of convincing the EU Commission to issue a long overdue ban on the import of horse meat from Canada, our presentation focused on our findings from the years of investigations and research that Animals’ Angels has performed on the horse slaughter pipeline and related industry.

During today’s speech, Sonja Meadows focused on two key findings from our ongoing investigations and research which support our request that the EU immediately ban the import of horse meat from Canada.

Animals’ Angels investigations have demonstrated during numerous cases that grave animal welfare concerns exist along every step of the North American horse slaughter pipeline.

We strongly believe no animal should ever have to experience what these horses are forced to endure every single day.

Our extensive research has uncovered severe traceability concerns which make it impossible for Canadian authorities to guarantee compliance with applicable EU requirements regarding drug residues.

In follow-up to the speech Sonja Meadows presented today to the EU Parliament, we are asking all our supporters to help out by signing an online petition requesting that the EU ban horse meat imports.

This petition will send an important message to the EU Parliament and Commission which could result in meaningful changes in the lives of thousands of horses.
