Our company recently encountered a complaint with a building involving varying building pressure – going from perfectly neutral to very positive – that was causing issues with doors opening and closing, and noisy high-velocity airflow around building openings.
This was an interesting case because it was a large space with large amounts of conditioned air and at certain times large heat and carbon dioxide loads. We began our investigation by arriving at the building and shutting down all air handling units. We then took various static pressure readings at doors with the building in this condition and found a neutral building. Starting up one unit at a time, we monitored the building pressure. When we had started up all 5 units, we maintained a neutral building pressure. After that, we put all units, one by one, to “free cooling.”
