AACY Camp Treasure
This March, AACY hosted its largest-ever overnight Camp Treasure at Everglades Youth Conservation Camp. This exciting time would not have been possible without the support of donors, AmeriCorps members, AACY volunteers, and a team who together created many unique experiences while giving Caregiving Youth a break from their responsibilities and having time to be a kid! Here are some fun pictures from that weekend:
LEGISLATIVE UPDATE FROM DR. CONNIE
AACY is pleased to announce that we are making slow but sure progress on expanding recognition and support of Caregiving Youth on the national stage. Our contributions to the RAISE Family Caregiver Advisory Council have led to formal federal recognition of Caregiving Youth; we secured report language last year in the FY22 appropriations bill. Thanks to the offices of Reps. Barbara Lee and Lois Frankel, we are getting close to submitting a letter to GAO requesting a study on Caregiving Youth issues. The bill idea is a more long-term project, and we hope to have more updates to share throughout this year.
4th In-Person CYI Conference
CALL TO ACTION
We need your help to make this year's conference a success! We are excited to be hosting our 4th in-person CYI Conference this year but we need donors and supporters like you to help us make this event as great as can be. Here are some ways that you can help support us with this event:

  • Spread the word!
  • We are calling on all of our supporters to spread the word of this event, particularly to those who may have connections to legislators, educators, researchers, and healthcare professionals who could help our cause and may want to participate
  • If you would like a copy of the flyers and links for the event to share with your contacts, please reach out to our Communications Manager, Dylan Wilde

Great Charity Challenge Raises $19,000 for AACY!
We at AACY were ever so thankful to have been chosen as a charity to be paired with a team at the Great Charity Challenge on February 5th. The theme was The Little Prince as you can see from the costumes of our three riders. They did their best and, as a result, AACY received $19,000! Members of the AACY Team including Izzy Parrado, AACY Board Secretary; and staff Amoy Gordon, Stephanie Valery, Mary Craumer, Tammy Melendez, and Autumn Rogers-Vazquez, and Dr. Connie joined in cheering our riders on! An exciting time for many charities thanks to Fidelity Investments, Anne Caroline and many sponsors and donors who made this evening of meaningful value to the greater Palm Beach County community!
Our youth thrive with support! Brady Bloom, one of our most accomplished alumni was awarded a scholarship by the Rotary Club of Downtown Boca Raton. Brady has done so much since joining our program and he remains an active alumnus and volunteer. We're so proud of you Brady!

First Annual Community Caregiver Awards Breakfast
We had a wonderful time celebrating and honoring Dr. Julia Belkowitz, Stallone's Italian Restaurant, and Comcast with you at our First Annual Community Caregivers Awards Breakfast in February. We were so thankful to all those who attended and all of you who helped us. AACY is pleased to announce that together, we raised over $13,000!

We look forward to making this event a tradition that all of our supporters look forward to every year, and we can't wait for 2023's awards!
New Board Member
AACY is pleased to announce the newest addition to our Board of Directors: Romeo Siquijor. We are thrilled to have you join our cause, and we look forward to a productive year in 2022 with your assistance.

We'd also like to thank Romeo for his enthusiasm and go-getter attitude. He dove right in; shortly after joining the board, he heard about Camp Treasure and asked if he could join us at camp to grill hotdogs and hamburgers for lunch, and we were so happy to have him there! Here he is with Dr. Connie:
Planning for the Year Ahead
  • Thanks to funding partners, we continue to directly serve Caregiving Youth in 35 Palm Beach County middle and high schools, in addition to students in 22 other local middle and high schools where the Caregiving Youth Project (CYP) has yet to expand to!

  • Further the four pillars of the Caregiving Youth Institute (CYI): Connect, Advocate, Research and Educate

  • Educate legislators to include Caregiving Youth in legislation and policy

  • Support child caregivers in military families

  • Develop the AACY Network of national partnerships & affiliates

  • Create recurring revenue streams to support sustainability

This is just a few of the many tasks we are working on. We are excited to continue our work for AACY and all of the children and families we serve.
