Removing the Veil on Racism: A Second Look at the Impact of Code Switching
Tuesday, November 10, 6-7:30 pm
Virtual Event
The Associate Alumnae of Douglass College proudly welcomes Dr. Jonathan Holloway, 21st President of Rutgers University, as guest speaker for the next interactive workshop in our AADC Excellence in Inclusion and Equity Initiative on November 10. This session, “Removing the Veil on Racism: A Second Look at the Impact of Code Switching,” takes place from 6-7:30 PM, via Zoom. Registration is open to all alumnae, friends and the Rutgers community.
An eminent historian and an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Holloway began his presidency on July 1, 2020. He previously served as provost of Northwestern University and dean of Yale College.
This session is the fourth in our ongoing series, “Removing the Veil on Racism,” and will be presented by attorney Caprice R. Jenerson '90, Chief Equity and Inclusion Officer, New York Legal Assistance Group. Caprice will examine the far-reaching toll of code switching, beyond exhaustion to depression, physical manifestations, imposter syndrome and more. She will focus on the solution of decentering white culture as the norm and about how we can blur, or even erase, the line between white culture and “others.”
Through the AADC Excellence in Inclusion and Equity Initiative, we build on the intrinsic trust among alumnae and friends to discuss how we can advance equity and inclusion in the context of uncomfortable realities. We are stronger when we move forward together in solidarity and are able to value, include, respect and embrace our differences. In doing so, we make our community, the country and the world a better place.

Get Involved in the AADC Alumnae Reunion Weekend 2021 Planning Committee
Next year it is going to be double the connections and double the classes as we commemorate milestone class reunions from both class years ending in 0s and 5s, as well as 1s and 6s, for a special AADC Alumnae Reunion Weekend 2021, from June 4 to 6. The Class of 1970 and the Class of 1971 will join together to mark their Vanguard 50th Reunions. We salute the Class of 1970 and the Class of 1971 for sharing the spotlight. The AADC knows the many ways alumnae cherish and look forward to reuniting, reconnecting and reminiscing with classmates for Reunion. Reunion Committee Chair Elena Anastasiou Rossi '78 invites all alumnae to get involved and attend virtual planning meetings. Please email Egypt Pringley '16 at the AADC at [email protected] to get involved.

Important Note Regarding Events and Programs

With this in mind, we will provide further updates as they evolve regarding the impact on AADC events and programs. We hope you will consider connecting and engaging with the AADC and each other through our upcoming virtual events and programs.
Decisions about the hosting of AADC Alumnae Reunion Weekend 2021 will be made according to the CDC, State of New Jersey, Rutgers University and the AADC Board of Directors. The AADC Reunion Committee will be informed and actively involved in all reunion decisions.

Put the AADC Mission in Motion While You Shop
|
|
It sounds like a rhetorical question, but do you shop online at Amazon? With more online shopping than ever during the pandemic, many people have upped their online shopping game. But did you know that every time you buy something, a small donation from that purchase can be sent to the AADC? AmazonSmile is a simple way to support your favorite charitable organization every time you shop, at no cost to you.
Start – or continue – shopping on Amazon and let the dollars mount up for the AADC! Please note that AmazonSmile donations to the AADC do not benefit NJC, DRC, Douglass or Rutgers. They benefit the AADC and help keep our mission in motion. Thank you.
