AADO APRIL
UPDATE
My dear friends,

Like many of you, I’m making it through day 30 of mandatory social distancing. I miss my friends, colleagues, associates and precious family. I'm worn out from sitting in front of the computer everyday – all day. What used to be an 8-10 hour day is now 12-14 hours of endless Zoom, BlueJeans, Team, and Skype video conference calls. I have to actually schedule breaks on my calendar so I can stretch, grab a snack and visit the Ladies Room. So I decided that I don’t want to return to my office and look back on two months of working from home and realize that all I did was work. I must do some of those things I promised myself I would do if I ever got the additional time to do it. For example, clean out the closet in the den. Organize and scan pictures – the real ones that you hold in your hands, remember those? Finish writing the book about my journey as an adopted child and finding my birth family (I’m still on chapter 1 – actually the first page…okay the first paragraph!). Dig out my flute and try to remember how to play “Let there be Peace on Earth” my first solo when I attended Mill Middle School in Western New York. (Oooh Lizzo I am not!)

Bottom line, we all must take care of ourselves. YOU must take care of yourself. Exercise, breathe deeply, step away from the computer. Set a start and end time for your work day. Get at least six hours of sleep. A little more if possible. Laugh and connect with people who make you laugh, who make you happy. Have a conversation with someone who will let you vent and they won’t hold it over your head later on. I definitely know who my go-to people are. Have video calls with your family. We did for my birth father‘s 80th birthday the other day. It was twenty-five solid minutes of laughter and shouting and singing happy birthday in 10 different keys, he absolutely loved it!!!!!!

Let’s have fun AADO family. Send a picture of yourself doing something besides working during the quarantine. Take a selfie in your garden, cooking, binge watching Tiger King, dancing…whatever brings you joy. We will post all of the pictures in the next AADO newsletter. Don’t miss out. It will be a blast to see everyone. [email protected]

I hope and pray that all of you, from Alaska to Florida, Oregon to Hawaii, our Canadian members and our members in Argentina, are doing well. Sending you peace and light during this difficult time.

Best wishes,

Birgit
