Dear AADO Members,
It's hard to believe that it is already mid-August! And I apologize that the newsletter is a week behind. But here it is and I know you all understand. So many things to do. So many deadlines. Sometimes we just need to go outside and look up at the sky and take a deep breath. Soak up the warmth and the glow of the sun. And hey, we will miss a few of those deadlines and that's alright. I'm hearing from so many of you as you adjust to different working situations - virtual and in-person. So many different experiences and sometimes challenges. Let's remember to support one another. Take time to laugh, cry, give advice when needed, or just listen. It's about community. And we have one another in this community and that's a good thing.
Be well,
Birgit

My Experience as an Intern with
Our Fundraising Search
By Davon Holmes
"To have the opportunity to work and understand nonprofits has been a fantastic experience. For the past few months, I have worked closely with a team of nonprofit experts who have made being an intern a tremendous adventure." Read Davon's story
Davon Holmes joined Our Fundraising Search as Marketing Intern in 2021. He is a senior at Georgia State University’s J. Mack Robinson School of Business and will receive his bachelor’s degree in marketing in December 2021.

A collaboration of nine organizations, led by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and its Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) Committee, has released a study of IDEA and leadership practices in the fundraising profession based on survey responses from more than 2,000 fundraising professionals. The findings show that the fundraising profession—and the nonprofit, charitable organizations it serves—are suffering from significant instances of bias and discrimination and will benefit from stronger leadership, more intentional support of staff and deliberate attention to creating policies and practices related to IDEA.

Shenise Foote holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communication from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. Her career started in Marketing and Events in a Detroit non-profit serving low-income families. Her marketing and event planning expertise led her to the University of Michigan, where she led her department’s marketing efforts and hosted several courses and conferences throughout the calendar year. She successfully raised money and became interested in building a career in Development where she could connect donors to the mission of the causes they support and help them achieve their philanthropic goals.
