Greetings AADO members,

It’s June and already we are halfway through 2021 – UNBELIEVABLE!! I hope everyone has plans to rest, relax, and rejuvenate this summer.

Thank you so much for responding to my call for articles, stories, opinion pieces, and musings. I expect the AADO summer newsletters will be filled with interesting and enjoyable content.

I look forward to the opportunity to visit with you all as soon as possible – the invitations for in-person events are slowing picking up and we are planning to be together in D.C. for the conference on Diverse Philanthropy and Leadership in April 2022. I CAN’T WAIT!!!

Continue to be well,
Birgit

The Real Kishshana Palmer Still Uncensored
             Part Two
By Birgit Burton
What Kishshana said during our interview that had me ROTFL:

“I hung up the Kishshana & Co sign initially because somebody thought I was cute at a conference and said, You know, you are really cute, you should come talk to my board, and I was like, "I should, shouldn't I?"”

“So Black, I am bliggity, bliggity, bliggity, bliggity, bliggity Black. And just in case you were wondering, I'm regular deregular, shmegular Black with Caribbean roots that are very deep because I'm first-gen American. I would say I'm a Caribbean-American woman. That is how I identify.”

“Oh, what's next? I would like to be on TV, put that in print. I want to get out of the day-to-day work. I would like to have a team of people who do this wonderful work because they want to work at a place that is run by a Black woman who is about that life where rest is a right, not a reward.”
