March 2021 Newsletter
Dear AADO Members,

While working with the AADO Newsletter team and volunteers in preparation for this month's newsletter, I searched for articles that the AADO membership would find interesting and informative in the inclusion, diversity, equity, and access space as it relates to the fundraising profession. But I didn't find very many new and refreshing articles. There were hundreds of articles last summer and fall when I searched DEI, Black fundraisers, diversity in recruiting, hiring, and retaining fundraising professionals in the nonprofit sector. And I'm not including the many panel discussions, podcasts, conference sessions or webinars - which have been great. I mean articles with facts, statistics, surveys, stories of the lived experiences of people of color. I'm looking for more books like Gospel of Giving, Collecting Courage. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Advancement . So send me links to articles. Write your own. Let's do our best to keep the issues of diversity and racism in the fundraising profession front and center so our voices, stories, and experiences will continue to be amplified and the inequities addressed.

"Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek." -- Barack Obama

Be well,
Birgit

 The Way I See It...
Our Moment?
Eldred Harris
As we approach the one year anniversary of most public schools, colleges and universities, and major businesses across the country either shuttering, or significantly limiting the scope of their operations, perhaps now might be a good time for us as diverse fundraisers to take an aerial perspective of the state of our chosen profession. And although it may be obvious that some of our nation's giving priorities and patterns may have shifted over the last year, a more thorough discussion of our unique roles, experiences, and perspectives regarding how we may impact giving moving forward might be in order.
This addition to the AADO Newsletter invites members to submit an opinion piece that presents their view on a current topic with a focus on philanthropy. Interested members should send an email to [email protected] subject: Contributing an opinion piece.
