Letter from the President
|
|
|
It’s not my imagination, the temperatures are finally cooler! Perhaps it isn’t ‘cold’ just yet, but it’s a vast improvement as we welcome a new FALL season in San Antonio! Also in the spirit of change, AAHA eagerly anticipates the pleasure of welcoming the new 2019 Directors to the Board, as decided in the
official elections
to be held at our next luncheon!
Please join us at
Range
on
October 18
th
as we elect five new members to the board. The nominations have been made, and AAHA members will vote on new chairpersons for the positions of Fundraising, Community Outreach, Registration, Social Media/Website, and Treasurer-Elect. The AAHA Board of Directors is honored to serve the AAHA membership and to support the tourism and hospitality industry at every level.
And to everyone who supported AAHA at our inaugural bowling tournament, a big
Thank You
to those who attended and participated in the
AAHA Rock ‘N’ Bowl
! Elvis, Sandra Dee, and the entire Lynyrd Skynyrd crew all made memorable appearances to the party! And there’s already talk of a Madonna tribute at next year’s tournament. The competition was friendly, and bad bowlers were celebrated, so no need to start practicing right away, but it isn’t too early to plan your own rockin’ team for 2019!
Here’s a rundown of the remaining 2018 AAHA Events, and we hope to see you soon!

2018 Volunteer Sign Up
Hello everyone,
My name is David Uminski. I am the new Volunteer Coordinator for
Tango of the Vines
. I am so excited to serve on this great committee and be involved in such an amazing event. Tango of the Vines will be held at the Witte Museum on Friday, November 2, 2018 from 7pm-10pm.
For those of you returning for another year we are grateful for your support of this meaningful event. For those of you who are signing up to volunteer for the first time, welcome...we are so happy you are willing to support Tango of the Vines.
Tango of the Vines has grown year over year and as a committee we decided to make a few changes to the volunteer shifts. If you do not see something you have done in the past, please let me know if there is a comparable shift in 2018.
Here is how volunteering works:
- Sign up for any volunteer shift(to receive a volunteer shirt, please sign up before Friday, October 5)
- Arrive at the Witte Museum by 6:15 pm and check-in with David. Volunteer orientation is necessary for everyone (even if your shift is the second half of the event). At orientation you will receive general volunteer information as well as area specific information.
- If you volunteer at the beginning of the event, please go to your area and enjoy the event when your responsibilities are complete, AND your relief has arrived.
If you are volunteering later in the evening, please enjoy the event and be respectful of those volunteering first by arriving on time for your shift.
As a volunteer, you will receive complimentary admission to Tango of the Vines as well as a volunteer t-shirt. Please be sure to sign up before October 5 to ensure we have a t-shirt for you.
Thank you so much for contributing to Tango of the Vines. The event could not be as successful as it is without the support of our wonderful volunteers. If you have any questions, please reach out to me via email. [email protected]
I will see y'all at the Witte!!

GET TO KNOW YOUR AAHA BOARD - Molly Hernandez

With over 8 years of Hospitality Industry experience, I am a Cali girl in a Texas world. I was born and raised in San Diego, CA where I spend my days at the beach as well as indulging in the wonderful foods and life the city has to offer. This is where my interest in the Hospitality Industry started.
When it was time for college, Northern Arizona University was the spot to be. NAU to this day is one of the leading schools in the Hospitality Degree Programs and was shaping a new way of teaching their students. I was fortunate enough to be a part of NAU during a wonderful time of change. I was able to gain experience in many fields while at NAU. I found myself participating in many out of class activities for the Hospitality School that included, planning and executing Casino Family Night and NAU during Family Weekend, planning and executing our Hospitably Charity Golf Tournament 3 years in a row and razing fund to go back to student hospitality scholarships, creating a Hospitality Portal for American Express, and creating a club for Non-Profits in town to find complimentary event planning services through NAU’s Hospitality School.
Once I graduated I had a job waiting for me here in San Antonio, Texas. I worked for ARAMARK for about 2 years at the UTSA Campus as a Food and Beverage Manager for many of the restaurants on campus as well as dabbling in the Catering Department. I loved working for UTSA but my heart was in the events world. I ended up leaving my corporate job and found myself selling Wedding Gowns full time. This allotted me the opportunity to network with ILEA and AAHA. Even though this was a tough point in my life I learned that networking was not only a way to learn about the San Antonio Event Industry but would also lead me to my new awaiting job.
I now find myself working for an amazing family-owned business, The RK Group. I work for Rosemary’s Catering, our company’s flagship business, selling catering for Historical Sunset Station. Our Sunset Station team loves working together to create a memorable experience for every client. Through networking, we hope to create strong bonds with other vendors in the ILEA and AAHA community to help create some amazing show-stopping events.
