By now, you may be aware that the AALP will be celebrating its 20th year Anniversary and Reunion on August 25th and 26th. Over the last 20 years, the AALP has devoted its energy to Agenda building and consensus, the right of residents to return after Katrina, and the equitable rebuilding of the city for its Black and low-income citizens. Obviously! Much more is needed to make the city democratic and equitable for everyone (especially African Americans). However, we pause to reference, remember the moment of achievement, and reflect on the struggles still to be waged.
We invite you to join us in both the celebration on the 25th and the discussions of community strategy and Agenda building on the 26th. We specifically ask that you invite AT LEAST 5 others to this historic event.
The Anniversary-Reunion opens with a Reception on the 25th at 6:30 pm at the New Orleans African American Museum at 1418 Gov. Nicholls Sf. Friday is a day of celebration, including 1) the 45th year since Dutch Morial became Mayor, 2) recognizing/honoring community leaders for their service, and 3) celebrating AALP's 20 years of work and struggle. We will also share in refreshments and entertainment.
The Anniversary-Reunion continues on Saturday the 26th with "A Day of Reflection, Discussion, and Dialogue" from 9 am to 4 pm at the Millie Charles School of Social Work on the SUNO campus. The day includes AALP's roles-contributions-lessons from its Agenda and Katrina work during the morning, the State of the City and Community, an Agenda building/consensus process, and what's next during the afternoon.
Enclosed are three flyers for your usage: 1.) F 1.1, a flyer on the Overall event, 2.) F 2.1, a flyer on the Friday Reception with Honorees, and 3.) F 3.1, a flyer on the Saturday Discussion and Dialogue. Please share the flyers with the five persons you invite and other interested parties. You should decide which flyer to send to interested persons: one of them, two of them or all three.
Next week, we will forward info on program participants for the events. Please encourage them to RSVP if they are interested.
Thank you so much for your help.
