The World Health Organization's Response to Covid-19
The COVID-19 pandemic has thrust the World Health Organization (WHO) into the limelight, for better and for worse. While some of the Trump administration’s criticism of the organization is unfair, the response to the early stages of the pandemic left many experts wanting more from the WHO. What is the WHO’s role in responding to international pandemics? What can be done to improve the WHO’s response to future global health crises?

DEI Dialogue #2: Micro-agressions
Saturday, November 13, 2021
10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Zoom
Sponsored by AAUW FL Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee

AAUW Florida invites you to participate in a series of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) discussions sponsored by the AAUW FL DEI Committee at 10 a.m. the second Saturday of every month October 2021 through March 2022.

This second discussion deals with micro-aggression: a comment or action that subtly and often unconsciously or unintentionally expresses a prejudiced attitude toward a member of a marginalized group. Micro-aggressions are based on stereotypes and are tied to implicit bias – the topic of the first discussion in this series held last month.

Join us November 13 to discuss how to identify and avoid micro-aggressions in your actions and language.

Plan to attend the rest of the dialogues in the series:
December 11, January 8, February 12 and March 12.

Dialogues are open to all members and guests.
Videos of all dialogues in the series will be posted on our website.

AAUW Daytona Minutes
September 18, 2021

AAUW Daytona met on Zoom on September 18 at 11 am. The meeting ws attended by Elvira LaBarre, Mary Ann Sines, Susan Jano, Patricia Ross, Ellen O'Shaughnessy, and two guests. AAUW Florida Diversity, Equity and Inclusion chair, Jonnie Perry led a discussion on Implicit Bias.

After the program President, Patricia Ross called the meeting to order.

The minutes of the last meeting have been approved by committee and will be shared in the next Tidings.

Patricia Ross shared that Finance Officer, Joann Meder has reported that the branch had 17 paid members for the 2021-22 year. Non-renewing members will be contacted. The balance in the branch account id $3962.51.

Patricia Ross announced that we had received a nice thank you note from the AAUW Fl Supporting Foundation for the branch's $750 donation towards Tech Trek. Tech Trek was held virtually this year and one girl who was selected by the branch in 2020 attended.

AAUW Daytona was recognized by the AAUW National 5 Star Program in the areas of Communications and Program last year. It was one of only two branches in th state to be recognized.

This is the 140th anniversary for AAUW and, in October, AAUW Daytona will complete 75 years. AAUW is requesting affiliate donations to AAUW Greatest Needs as a requirement for one of the Stars this year. Mary Ann Sines moved that the branch make a $140 dollar donation to Greatest Needs in honor of AAUW's 140th anniversary and a $75 donation in recognition of the branch anniversary. Susan Jano seconded. After discussion, the motion passed.

Ellen O'Shaughnessy recommended postponing the branch fundraiser since it ws not felt it would be successful virtually, especially with our low current membership. The members agreed.

Ellen O'Shaughnessy and Susan Jano agreed to be readers of the minutes for the meeting.
