Volume 2, Issue 7, February 2021
We advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research.
February is going to be a busy month!
We have a wonderful Saturday program lined up for February 13. It may be a Zoom "doubleheader".
We will hear from an authority on COVID, Ann Ervin. See the details below. So, bring your questions!

On that Zoom call, we are also hoping to introduce you to two of the Teacher Leaders from the Tucson Regional Education Collaborative (https://trecarizona.org). An AAUW grant to TREC supports these vital resources. This has been a trying year for all our educators and these Teacher Leaders have a special perspective to share. Register HERE.
The AAUW State Public Policy Committee is sponsoring a virtual Legislative Day on Tuesday, February 9. More information below.
Coming up this Friday, February 5 is the YWCA of Southern Arizona Women's Leadership Conference. It's called "We Were Made For This: Meeting The Future Courageously." It's all virtual, too. Here is the LINK to register.
Finally, elections are on the horizon. We have several board openings, including President, Vice President of Programs, and Public Policy/Marketing. If you are interested in running for any of these two-year positions, please let me know. Just click on my name to send me an email.

Sincerely, Linda Alepin
President, AAUW Tucson

Lined up for our next general meeting will be guest speaker, Ann Ervin, a registered pharmacist, independent drug store owner & operator, and past NJ Board of Pharmacy member.
Ann brings a wealth of knowledge about the virus, vaccination procedures, drug interactions, along with expertise with other pharmaceutical practices like billing, all parts of Medicare, and best practices involving drugs and vitamins.
Ann is a dedicated professional and as one of the first independent community pharmacies to be approved to administer the vaccine in the state of NJ, she is a trailblazer.
Register HERE -- the Zoom information will be issued on February 12.

AAUW Legislative Day 2020 -- Virtual
February 9 -- 9:30 to 11:00
The Zoom link will be sent to you.
The Fifty-fifth, First Session of the Arizona legislature opened January 11. There are many interesting legislative issues including
attacks on voting and women’s health, constitutional
challenges, and budget maneuvers that would defeat the purpose of voter-passed
Proposition 208.

We are uniquely positioned to weigh in on these and other legislative initiatives that
correlate with AAUW public policy positions. Arizona is the only state to have a Request to
Speak (RTS) opportunity whereby after registering, citizens may support or oppose any
bill that is appearing before a legislative committee in the upcoming week.
Join us on February 9 and meet our lobbyist Jodi Liggett,
and powerful legislators Senator Peshlakai, and Representatives Salman and Teran. Join
our team of members who are determined to be heard and make a difference in this session.
Thank you so much to Dalia Ebeid, the AAUW International Fellow from Egypt for her presentation in January.
You can view the discussion on our YouTube Channel HERE.
SARSEF Judges Needed!
For many years, AAUW members have served as judges for SARSEF -- the Science and Engineering Fair. They need volunteers for this year's virtual SARSEF Fair from March 1 to 4.
Over the past year, SARSEF staff has worked to build a virtual model for the SARSEF Fair that, while different, can capture the excitement of the fair in its 66th year. The major change is that the Fair is virtual. Therefore, judges will have a longer period to review projects.
Starting Saturday, February 27, a judge will be able to review projects online at their convenience. Then, the judge will interview students and meet with other judges to determine winners all in one day depending on the grade level or, in the case of high school projects, the category.
For more information, click HERE.
To sign up to be a judge, look HERE.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Julie Eber. Her information is below. SARSEF appreciates all our efforts in the past and hopes to work with some of us again this year.
