August 2024

President's Welcome and Message

AAUW Florida…Moving Forward with Fortitude…

“If we can see it, we can achieve it!”

Welcome to Auspicious August and Membership Year 2024-2025!

I am excited, honored and humbled to serve as your President!

As we begin the new membership year, we extend a heartfelt thank you to our 2023-2024 board members. A special thank you goes to our Immediate Past President, Bea Holt. Under her leadership, AAUW Florida advanced with successful programming, including state-wide regional conferences and a Pathways to Leadership project. Bea, we are truly grateful for your service and will miss your grace and leadership.

We had a successful start to the year with the transition of our board. Moving forward with determination, we will continue to focus our programming on AAUW’s mission: “To advance gender equity for women and girls through research, education, and advocacy.” With this mission in mind, we are committed to inclusivity, diversity, equity, and transparency in our programming, while aligning strategically with AAUW National.

In June, I had the pleasure of meeting individually with each board member. I was humbled by their expertise, programming ideas, and dedication to the AAUW mission. In July, we met as a group for a successful virtual team-building session and a short business meeting. We have a strong and motivated board, and I am looking forward to a successful and collaborative year!

Congratulations to the 2024-2025 AAUW Florida Board! Your willingness to serve is deeply appreciated!

Sincerely,

K. Lee-Smith, Ph.D.

Shape Our Future: Come Work with the AAUW Florida Finance Committee

Join the AAUW Florida Finance Committee! We collect $12 in annual dues per member, with spending decisions made by the AAUW Florida Board based on recommendations from the Finance Committee. These funds support Lobby Days, Tech Trek, FloriVision, our website, leadership development, and administrative expenses.

As a member of the Finance Committee, you’ll recommend financial management, communications, and budgeting strategies. We’ll also serve as a bridge between AAUW national and the branches. If you are or have been a branch treasurer or have other financial experience, please contact me to discuss participating in these important decisions. I encourage members from both small and large branches across the state to join.

Thanks,

Ellen Roche
