PRESIDENT'S MESSSAGE

President’s Message

As I sit down to write this newsletter message, I think about our Holiday Lunch the beginning of December. After a year of working tirelessly to promote equity and education for women and girls, it was wonderful to slow down, share a meal, and simply enjoy each other’s company.

Calling All Branch Members!

We’ve got a place for you at the Wildflower Run

The 43rd annual Wildflower Run is Sunday, April 12. Enjoy the feeling of satisfaction by volunteering. Our many committees need your help to bring the run to life.

Contact our Run Directors Carol Ferri or Bobbie Erb at wfr@aauwmh.org to see where your talents can be put to use.

Annual Wildflower Fund Member Campaign

Sierra Van Holt recently attended Tech Trek on an AAUW MH scholarship.

She states, "I am incredibly grateful to Tech Trek for getting me out of my comfort zone and into a supportive environment filled with bright young women. It fortified my love for the sciences and encouraged me to participate in tasks that will require me to struggle, persevere, and prevail."

HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED

Branch Member Artists Showcased

Branch members enjoyed the 5th annual Morgan Hill Open Studios on October 25–26 attending in support of member artists Alissa Crispin, Bill Barnhart and Nancy Wulff as they showcased their work.

Members have served on the organizing committee and participated since the event’s inception, reflecting a shared commitment to creativity, community engagement, and strengthening Morgan Hill’s arts and cultural landscape.

October Program - Constitution 101

Sobrato High School U.S. history teacher Howard Barnes was the speaker for the AAUW program on October 28 in the Student Union building at Britton Middle School. He led attendees through a fascinating refresher course on the U.S. Constitution. Copies of the Constitution were available as well.

Celebrating our

AAUW Philanthropy Honoree

Monica McClintock, the recipient of AAUW’s 2025 Community Foundation Philanthropy award, was all smiles as our AAUW video played to a full audience at the Morgan Hill Philanthropy Night dinner. Monica has quietly contributed to our branch in so many ways from Leadership and Membership to years of publishing the Sunday email.

Thank You, Monica!

A Holiday Celebration

The December 7 Holiday Lunch at Giorgio’s was a sparkling occasion filled with good friends, lively conversation, scrumptious food, and delightful music performed by members of the Ukuladies group. It was the perfect way to kick off the winter holidays with our AAUW friends.

Many thanks to Margo Hinnenkamp and Karen MacDonald for organizing this wonderful event.

CONNECTING WITH OUR MEMBERS

In Loving Memory of Beth Wyman

Long time AAUW member Beth Wyman died at home November 17, 2025. She was a charter member of AAUW MH, although she first joined AAUW in Walnut Creek in 1959. She also lived in Saratoga where she was a member.

She returned to Morgan Hill in 2007 and soon started the popular Friday Writers group. She herself was the author of the book on Hiram Morgan Hill. Beth was also active in the MH Historical Society.

Member Travels

Beautiful Copenhagen and Norway

In October Susan Parodi visited Copenhagen and Norway with her husband, son and daughter-in-law. They enjoyed private tours of Copenhagen, Oslo, and Bergen.

The food was delicious; Susan had her first taste of reindeer. They used all types of transportation: ferry, bus, train, airplane, funicular, and even an ambulance for Susan’s broken leg on the last day. Great memories were made.

Cruising the Danube

Branch members Margo Hinnenkamp, Joan Stempel, and Jenny Redfern traveled the Danube with friends Bobbi Graham, Mary Martin, and Carole Roszkowski from October 4 to November 6. Their Viking cruise took them from Passat, Germany, to Budapest, Hungary, with several cities along the way and a few extra days in Vienna.

GIVING BACK

MH Branch Endowment Funds

AAUW National is one of the largest funders of women’s graduate education, awarding millions of dollars each year in fellowships and grants. The Morgan Hill branch has completed two endowments.

The Blaine/Cate Fellowship this year is supporting Jana Skirnewskaja, who is doing research at MIT in holographic 3D displays for cars.

The recipient of the Wildflower Run Projects Grant is Atiya Bigby-Yodlowsky, a re-entry student and mother of three studying the flute in NC.

Community Action Grants Awarded

This year, the Community Action Grants Committee reviewed 13 applications from a variety of community groups looking for financial assistance for their projects.

We selected nine incredible programs and allocated a total of $8,500, in $500 and $1,000 increments. You can learn more about our awardees’ projects and goals HERE

AAUW and Leadership Morgan Hill

Our branch is pleased to announce JoAnne Markowska as the recipient of our Leadership Morgan Hill Class of 2026 AAUW-MH scholarship. Congratulations, JoAnne!

This scholarship supports outstanding local women in developing leadership skills, civic engagement, and community impact. We are proud to invest in JoAnne’s growth and look forward to contributions she will make to Morgan Hill in the future.

Over 30 College Scholarships Awarded!

More than $26,250 in scholarships for the 2025-2026 academic year have been awarded to women of various ages and study in many fields.

Our branch has awards for first year college students, delayed and returning students, study in STEM fields and returning AAUW scholarship recipients.

Take a look at the list of awardees and their schools HERE.

Join the Fun with Tech Trek

We’re looking for members to join the Tech Trek committee. Committee members help select the 7th grade girls who will attend Camp Carson at UC Santa Cruz in July. We will start scoring essays and holding interviews in February.

Email Susan Parodi at techtrek@aauwmh.org to ask questions or to join the team.

YWL is Off and Running

Young Women Leaders is picking up steam; 15 girls attended the December meeting. Members range from 8th graders to high school seniors.

They’ve settled on a theme for their Spring conference and have identified workshop topics, ranging from AI and careers of the future to yoga and most things in between. It’s a great group of girls, feel free to join us at the next meeting!

The group meets monthly at the MH Community & Cultural Center. Members interested in helping please contact the facilitators at ywl@aauwmh.org.
