RENEW YOUR MEMBERSHIP NOW
Our new fiscal year starts on July 1 and with it comes renewal dues. If you have not already done so, please take a few minutes now to renew your membership to continue to benefit from all that National, California and Marin Branch AAUW has to offer. National dues increased by $3, California stayed the same and Marin branch dues decreased by $3 resulting in the same $99 total dues as last year.
You received an email from National in June that gave you a link to click on to pay your dues online. You can also print out the renewal form from this link and mail a check, payable to AAUW Marin, to the branch Treasurer, Sue Torres at 256 Marinda Drive, Fairfax. Fifty year members and those without email received a paper dues renewal in June.
Can’t find that email or the paper mailing? Contact Membership Chair, Chris O’Neill, here or 415-847-0862, and she’ll help you.

Bank of Marin has committed to once again provide AAUW Marin with a $1,000 donation to support the Tech Trek program. Virtual Tech Trek 2021
CA AAUW is running three weeks of virtual Tech Trek with lots of participation from Marin. Angela Nickels, Dotty Burk and Dianne Sheridan are volunteering to support the girls as they work on coding a robot or participating in science experiments. Melanie Chancellor (Make a Fold-a-Scope) and Amy Anderson (Origami Cube) are teaching classes each week. Most gratifying is that nine former Tech Trekkers have stepped up to be near-peer coaches to help the current Tech Trekkers. As previously announced Marin AAUW has sponsored 20 girls from 7 middle schools to attend this STEM focused camp.
From Angela: “Just finished up first Camp week – what an amazing opportunity for the young women that were selected to participate. I have to say, I’m inspired by them, not to mention the junior coaches who were exceptional.”
The committee needs additional adult Workshop Coaches (1:30 – 5:00 M-Th) for the next camps (7/12-16 & 7/26-30). The more coaches the camps have the fewer girls are in each breakout room. If you are interested in joining the fun, Please contact Amy Anderson HERE if you can help.

Marin AAUW Invites you to Tip Toe Back to Normal with us in July for Some Summer Fun
On Sunday, July 18, 2021, from noon to 2:00 pm, instead of a virtual zoom gathering, our Summer Fling will be in multiple locations and in-person!
1. We will gather in four groups of up to 10 each for DIY backyard picnic lunches at the homes of four members (limit of 40 members total, so RSVP quickly to the paperless post invite that will come in early July).
2. DIY means you will bring your own salad or sandwich, just for you, not to share. Hostesses will supply the beverages.
3. Since we are so newly “freed” from prior COVID restriction, we do suggest that attendees by fully vaccinated.
4.Wear a mask if you like, but in accordance with County guidelines, they aren’t required for outdoor gatherings.

The Tuesday Morning Booklovers Club
This month the club is reading Passing by Nella Larsen.
The novel centers on the meeting of the two childhood friends later in life, and the unfolding of events as each woman is fascinated and seduced by the other's daring lifestyle. The end of the novel is famous for its ambiguity. Recently, Passing has received renewed attention because of its close examination of racial and sexual ambiguities and liminal spaces. It has achieved canonical status in many American universities.

What’s New at AAUW National This Summer
· Launching the Equity Network Social Change Ambassadors Certificate Program. This innovative seven-week program is designed for women and men in the workforce and focuses how to make workplace practices more inclusive and equitable. It will also help participants expand their networks by connecting them to social changemakers across the country. After completing the program, participants earn a certificate they can use on their resume and LinkedIn profile.
Launching AAUW STEMed for Girls a pilot program, supported by a grant from the Arconic Foundation, designed to encourage high school girls, particularly girls of color, to pursue education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through a series of free virtual interactive workshops that aims to debunk myths about pursuing and working in STEM fields. STEM Ambassadors, accomplished AAUW fellowships and grants alumnae and STEM experts, will facilitate discussions, offer guidance and mentorship and encourage parents and caregivers to support their daughters’ education and career journeys.
