It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Charlene Setlow at Stanford Hospital, Palo Alto. She was born in Idaho, where she lived for several years before moving to Monterey. She worked as a software consultant while getting her degree in Information Technology from San Jose State University. She was an IT Specialist and Software Engineer with international banking and financial firms for 30 years, until a heart transplant became necessary about 24 years ago.

As a philanthropist, she loved helping young college women achieve their educational goals in science. She established several scholarships and grants, including the AAUW Louise V. Setlow Scholarship at Stanford, and the Charlene A. Setlow STEM endowment at Mt. St. Mary's University, Los Angeles.

While she only joined our branch in 2016, she had a great impact, in spite of her medical challenges. She was the first in our branch to use her IRA required minimum distribution to source a contribution to scholarships. She was honored at our January 2017 branch meeting for establishing a Tech Trek scholarship in memory of her mother, Louise V. Setlow. She was a very passionate member of the Tech Trek Committee, encouraging girls to enter STEM careers. She was always very upbeat and had many great ideas for growing and improving the program. She was the grant writer for our local Tech Trek program and was successful getting grants from Yellow Brick Road. She herself was a generous donor to the program, inspiring others in her family to help out as well.

Cremation will be in Monterey County with scattering of her ashes in Monterey Bay. Her smiles and grace will be sorely missed.

Donations may be made to Tech Trek in her name with a check payable to "AAUW-CA SPF", with Tech Trek and Charlene's name in the memo line. Send it to Pat Fletcher, 6 Overlook Place, Monterey, CA 93940.
