LET'S OPEN UP AAUW!

Voting Starts This Week

The boards of directors of AAUW, AAUW Marin, and AAUW CA all support eliminating the degree requirement for membership in AAUW; all three organizations are asking members to approve the necessary bylaws change. Voting starts this week and continues through noon on May 15.

Watch your email for instructions on how to vote electronically. The email will come from Simply Voting.com. Simply Voting is the independent organization that is managing the election process. The email will contain your unique voter ID and PIN. If you don't see the email in your inbox, check your spam or junk folder. If you don't have an email on file with AAUW you will receive a paper ballot.

Want more information on why the national, state and our local board of directors all support this change? Register for the Open Membership Q&A Session on Tuesday, April 2, at 4:00 pm Pacific Time. Webinar Registration - Zoom

Or check out all the information on the OpenUpAAUW.org website. Or maybe just memorize this!

The time has come (AAUW has said) to speak on this important thing.

Let's cut our own barrier to equity

and support the value inclusivity can bring!

The amendment requires approval from 2/3rds of those voting.

YOUR VOTE IS IMPORTANT!

Chat with Leslie

Dear all,

A topic at one of our first AAUW Marin branch meetings in 1932 was California law as it affects women. On Lobby Day - April 2, 2024 - we will again talk with our legislators about laws that affect women. Advocating for women - 92 years and counting!

Do you know who has been an AAUW member for 70 years? 60 years? 50 years? Join us at 2pm at the Key Room at Homeward Bound on April 13th to celebrate AAUW history, highlight members, and chat about the future. Bring guests, call a new member, dress in something white (like our Suffragette foremothers!), or come as you are. If you haven’t already RSVP’d for the Tea - watch for the invitation coming Wednesday or pay by PayPal below!!

Have you already made your donation to AAUW’s Greatest Needs Fund? Big or small - we hope for 100% participation! Check out Kathleen Clark's great letter sent last month on why this is so important. Need help with navigating the online donation process or with making a donation by check or from your IRA or other charitable fund? Click here for instructions. If you donate before our gathering on April 13, we'll have a blue sash and artist-designed pin for you!

See you on the 13th!

Welcome New Members

Kathleen Camp

Kathy moved to Marin 2 years ago from the East Bay. She grew up in So Cal, went to college in Nor Cal, got a job with Chevron in Richmond working on oil tankers and stayed. She is married with two adult sons. She likes to play pickleball and travel, recently returning from Italy. And she just bought a travel trailer for the shorter trips.

Sara Goerke

Sara is a retired librarian and, of course, loves to read. She splits her time between San Rafael and Truckee. She plays both bridge and Mah Jongg. Sports is a love and she enjoys hiking. Travel is a passion with trips planned to Egypt this fall and Sicily next Spring.

Rebecca O'Neill

Rebecca, the daughter of Chris O'Neill, recently joined us. She is a busy internal medicine hospitalist at Kaiser San Francisco and acting director of their residency program. Juggling a color-coded spreadsheet to keep track of work, school and activities for herself, her ER physician husband, and sons ages 9 and 6, is challenging! In her limited free time, she enjoys hiking, skiing, traveling, yoga and attending her sons' activities.

New Members Meet

Eight new and prospective members joined Membership Chair Chris O'Neill, Sue Torres and Angela Nuckles for coffee at Chris' home on March 9. The new members are ready to get involved with the branch and the two prospective members have since joined AAUW taking advantage of the Shape-the-Future promotion (half price National dues).
