Update on Branch Dues
For the past several years, we have been spending more than we are taking in from branch dues of $25 per member. Fortunately we have had a reserve in our account that we have been able to draw from, but we cannot continue this trend.

New Board Composition Approved
At its August meeting, the AAUW MH Board of Directors approved changes to the composition of the board. These updates are the result of the Board and Bylaws/Governance committee working together to gradually modify how the Branch governs itself.
For more information about this yearlong process, READ the committee report.
Send any questions to Carol O’Hare, committee chair.

2023-2024 Allocations
Each summer, after we have accounted for all expenses and income associated with the Wildflower Run, the branch Allocations committee meets to create a plan for dispersing funds raised to our various causes.
This year, thanks to the generosity of our members and corporate sponsors, combined with 1200 runner registrations, we were able to allocate $71,500.
Complete details of where these funds are going is available HERE.

Candidates Forums
AAUW Morgan Hill hosted three candidates forums in September: the mayor’s race, MH Unified School District, and City Council seats.
| | |
Some technical and organizational problems with the mayoral forum were worked out before the second and third programs. Four of six MHUSD candidates participated, and three of four city council candidates. Audience turnout was good for the mayor’s forum, OK for MHUSD and light for city council, but online streaming captured several hundred additional views.

Morgan Hill Branch Showcase
The 2nd annual AAUW MH Showcase on October 22 was a big success. The well attended event presented information about branch programs and interest groups, and showed off the 2025 Wildflower Run t-shirt design.
| | |
Our own Ukuladies provided entertainment, and attendees had the opportunity to visit table displays and chat with members. Five guests, including a college student, joined on the spot!

A Cruise to the Galapagos
Arlene and Rick Noodleman went on an amazing cruise to the Galapagos in September, a trip of a lifetime. They visited four islands, each committed to sustainable tourism. They viewed unique species in their natural habitats: giant tortoises, marine iguanas, penguins, and the famous blue-footed booby. They snorkeled in an amazing marine reserve, home to over 450 different species of fish. Beaches and forest habitats all had stunning natural beauty and volcanic formations.

Scotland Travel
Joanne Rife and Susan Rife bracketed an 8-day ukulele, bike and sail adventure through the Inner Hebrides of Scotland with days in Glasgow and Edinburgh, where they toured the Edinburgh Castle, did a Literary Pub Tour, walked many miles and ate cullen skink (smoked haddock and potato soup), sticky toffee pudding, and a teeny bite of haggis.
On the ukulele adventure, they lived aboard the Flying Dutchman and spent their days e-cycling through the Scottish islands, sampling whisky and strumming their ukuleles.
