2019-2020 Theme:
Economic Security for Women
|
|
Message from the President
|
This year we are following National by taking on the theme of Economic Security for Women. Many of our speakers will enlighten us regarding programs and services in our area that focus on women in jobs and where there is need. Texas ranks 26th in the nation with a Gender Pay Ratio of 79%.
One of our goals is to spread Work Smart and Start Smart in our community. We already have one university interested in Start Smart and several non-profits have shown interest. Help us to spread the word with other organizations you may belong to by telling them about the free online course at
salary.aauw.org
or opportunity to have an onsite class.
Our Chief Executive Officer, Kimberly Churches, is asking us to think big. She recently said at an event, “Imagine, if we trained 10 million people through our Start Smart and Work Smart workshops. What if we created nationally respected employer resources to complement the Start Smart and Work Smart workshops? Or if we created a scorecard of state, federal, and international pay equity practices and legislation? And imagine if we became the leading international organization on pay equity.” Let us be proud that we support the leading organization for research and action in bringing women the information and training they need to have equity in the workforce and join her in imagining the day when equity is a reality. I am grateful for each of you as we support with our dues and our presence the mission of AAUW. Together we can make an impact in our community.
And don’t forget to check out the opportunities this month to come together with others in fellowship. I hope to see you all at our October meeting. Check out the details in the newsletter and RSVP to Eleanor Skelley.
