The American Association of University Women at UH Mānoa (AAUW at UHM) is and will continue to be active for the 2022-23 academic school year.

The mission of our Registered Independent Organization (RIO) is to promote the values of AAUW on the UHM campus and in the community; we are working towards equity in society by providing the tools necessary for women to gain economic security, pursue their education, and advocate for women's rights.

AAUW at UHM's internship program, consisting of eight students from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, is housed in the Office of Civic and Community Engagement, under the supervision of Director Atina Pascua, and sponsored by the AAUW Honolulu Branch.

To become a member, please email [email protected] expressing your interest. We will ask follow up questions at that time. In order to have an active-status in our RIO, we ask that you attend at least one event every semester. We have no membership fees. Our RIO is open to everyone!

AAUW at UH Mānoa's events are kindly sponsored by
the UH Mānoa Office of Civic and Community Engagement (OCCE)

Sexual Assault Awareness Month

April is recognized as sexual assault awareness month (SAAM). This year theme is drawing connections: prevention demands equity. Drawing connections highlights the necessity to end all forms of oppression in order to end sexual harassment, assault, and abuse. Individuals and communities alike are encouraged to build racial and equity and respect. Throughout its 22 years, SAAM has brought attention to sexual violence and its impact on every individual, raising public awareness while educating communities on preventative measures.

To learn more about SAAM, visit the National Sexual Violence Resource Center's website.

Meet our newest AAUW at UH Mānoa intern!

Aloha, everyone! My name is Shayni Kaleikaūmakalani Mirafuentes and I am currently a junior majoring in Entrepreneurship, soon to be double majoring in Marketing, at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa. I was born and raised here in O'ahu, Hawai'i, and am a Native Hawaiian which is a very important part of my identity. I have my own small business called Frozen Treats Hawai'i, which you can find @frozentreatshi on Instagram, and I make and sell candy grapes! I am grateful for the opportunity to be working for AAUW at UHM and am excited to bring fun and informational events to campus that relate to the organization's values and what we stand for. My goal in working with AAUW at UHM is to make a positive change in people's lives by showing them the importance of acknowledging and fighting for women's rights as well as inviting them to join our community that advocates for women's voices to be heard. Some of my hobbies over the years include a variety of arts and crafts such as making bead necklaces, resin letter keychains, drawing, painting, etc. But I also love reading manga/manhwa, watching anime, listening to music, and singing!

KCC Corner

Dress for Success for Men

Dress For Success is a great resource provided by the YWCA; women across O'ahu are eligible for job coaching, and assistance, and even lend out proper attire for an interview.

But what about for guys? There are many resources available for clothing, and counseling/career coaching. Many churches, and donation sites offer a similar service. School counselors are also great tools that can assist you in your interview preparation. One counselor stated, "Getting to talk to the kids is the best part of the job, it makes it all worth it." So don't be afraid to talk to your counselors, they would love to help, and hear from you!

There is good news, many of our UH campuses are starting their own closets. Most notably, UH West O'ahu has started its own closet available to its students to receive clothes and shoes. Even KCC has many donation boxes for graduation. KCC's Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society provides a cheaper alternative to the costly graduation attire. Students can rent out caps and gowns, and borrow dress shirts and dresses. If you would like to donate, see Phi Theta Kappa's website for more, and contribute to the cause!

KCC Sustainability Fair

Join us for KCC's Sustainability Fair on April 11th from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at KCC on the Great lawn!
