AAVMC Named Full Voting Member of APWA

As the Department of Education implements the provisions of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, AAVMC has joined the Advanced Professional Workforce Alliance (APWA) as a full voting member. Learn more about APWA here.

By proactively joining alliances like APWA, AAVMC can continue to track new regulations as they emerge and address provisions that adversely affect our member institutions.

AAVMC exhibited at the HOSA-Future Health Professionals International Leadership Conference from June 17-20 in Indianapolis, IN.

During the conference, staff had an opportunity to connect with more than 15,000 students and advisors who are passionate about pursuing careers in the health professions.

In addition to exhibiting, AAVMC also facilitated an educational session with student volunteers, participated in the HOSA 100 Advisory Council Meeting, sponsored three veterinary science competitions, and three scholarships that were presented live.

Building Connections Across Academic Veterinary Medicine

It has been five short months since I began my role as chief executive officer at AAVMC. As I reflect on these first few months, I am grateful for the opportunity to connect with members, partners, and colleagues across academic veterinary medicine. These conversations have reinforced the importance of collaboration and are already shaping AAVMC's strategic priorities.

One of my greatest privileges has been meeting virtually with almost 70 deans from AAVMC member institutions to understand their unique perspectives and priorities. A summary of the major themes from these conversations will be shared anonymously with the AAVMC Board and our strategic planning consultant to inform the strategic planning process we will launch in early 2027. In the meantime, these conversations have inspired innovations in our day-to-day operations. I am very grateful to the deans for taking the time to share their thoughts and wisdom.
