SOC Spotlight: Learning Experiences

Ready to try innovative approaches to prepare students for Spectrum of Care (SOC) practice? 

 

The Spectrum of Care Implementation Strategies Guide features a collection of SOC Learning Experiences highlighting creative ways that educators are already teaching and assessing SOC competencies in veterinary education. Each example includes information about logistics, as well as potential challenges and solutions, to help you implement SOC learning experiences in your curriculum.

VetEd AAVMC is a biennial conference designed to foster collaboration, connection, and innovation among veterinary educators. Under the theme, “It Takes a Village,” this inclusive and engaging event welcomes all teaching professionals—including early- and mid-career faculty, educational leaders, and veterinary technician educators—who are passionate about advancing excellence in veterinary education. It is inspired by the widely acclaimed VetEd model.

Webinar: Working with Challenging Clients

Michael Hawkins, a licensed professional counselor at Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine, will discuss working with challenging clients in the hospital clinic setting. 

  

During this session, Hawkins will discuss how to set up a supportive clinic environment where staff feel prepared rather than overwhelmed. He will cover key policies and expectations to reduce confusion during challenging interactions, as well as practical communication and de‑escalation skills staff can use when clients are frustrated, angry, anxious, or feeling unheard.
