AAVMC Launches Webinar Series on Policy Changes Under New Administration

AAVMC’s Government Affairs team hosted the first in a series of webinars to explore the impact of changes under the new administration. Exclusively for AAVMC member institutions, the session saw more than 30 participants engage in discussions on various topics—from recent executive orders and budget reconciliation to the role of diversity, equity, and inclusion in accreditation. An expert panel featured Sophia Magill, Senior Advisor to the President at Iowa State University, and Rachel Minahan, Director of Government Affairs at the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. The discussion was moderated by Kevin Cain, AAVMC’s Senior Director for Governmental Affairs.

New Report on Shared Faculty Appointments Addresses Veterinarian Shortage


AAVMC released its survey findings in a new report, Shared Faculty Appointment Survey. Led by James Lloyd, DVM, PhD, of Animal Health Economics, and Lisa Greenhill, EdD, of AAVMC, the survey explores current practices surrounding shared faculty appointments between academia and the private sector, addressing the growing shortage of veterinarians. The findings highlight the prevalence of shared appointments, specific employment models being implemented, and the key advantages and challenges associated with these shared appointments. Registration Open for Academic Veterinary Medicine Symposium


We are excited to announce that registration is now open for the AAVMC Academic Veterinary Medicine Symposium, scheduled for June 36, 2025, at Texas A&M University.


This premier professional development event is dedicated to advancing veterinary medical education. This four-day symposium brings together educators, researchers, and institutional leaders to explore critical topics shaping the future of veterinary education. The symposium features three key programs:


  • June 3: Spectrum of Care (SOC) Symposium–Addressing strategies to enhance veterinary graduates’ ability to practice along the spectrum of care.
  • June 45: Competency-Based Veterinary Education (CBVE) Summer Workshop–A deep dive into CBVE implementation, assessment, and best practices.
  • June 6: Consortium of Workplace-Based Education and Learning (COWBEL) Meeting–A dedicated forum for discussing workplace-based learning in veterinary education.*


Attendees can choose to participate in one, multiple, or all of the programs based on their interests and availability.
