| | Carson and Lang Receive Dr. Catherine A. Knupp Scholarships | | AAVMC is pleased to announce Ryan Carson and Haeree Lang as the recipients of the 2025 Dr. Catherine A. Knupp Scholarship, which the Zoetis Foundation generously supports. Each recipient will receive a $25,000 award to help alleviate educational debt and support their continued journey in veterinary medicine and research. | |
Ryan Carson is a dual DVM/PhD candidate at Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine and the mother of three children. She is passionate about infectious diseases, particularly parasitology and zoonotic conditions.
Carson plans to pursue board certification and a career in academic veterinary medicine and research.

Haeree Lang is an ADVM/PhD dual degree candidate at the University of Minnesota. She recently defended her doctoral research on antigen-specific CD4+ T cell responses in dogs.
Lang aims to lead a research lab focused on immune-mediated diseases and teach future veterinarians about the clinical applications of immunology.

AAVMC congratulates the 10 member colleges that successfully completed our inaugural Introduction to Systemic Wellbeing Course: Colorado State University, Louisiana State University, Michigan State University, The Ohio State University, Oregon State University, Texas Tech University, Tuskegee University, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, University of Tennessee, and University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Over 16 weeks, teams of college leaders and wellbeing professionals explored the fundamentals of designing sustainable, systemic wellbeing programs within colleges of veterinary medicine.
AAVMC is proud to support this important work and looks forward to launching the next cohort in August.

Experts Discuss Climate Change and Veterinary Competencies in Recent Webinar
Veterinary professionals are on the frontlines of addressing the health impacts of climate change. To prepare students for these emerging challenges, veterinary educators must be equipped to incorporate climate-related topics into their teaching. On May 20, the AAVMC Climate Change Working Group hosted an informative session focused on integrating climate change into competency-based veterinary education.

Taking place June 3–6 at Texas A&M University, this premier professional development event is dedicated to advancing veterinary medical education. This four-day symposium brings together educators, researchers, and institutional leaders to explore critical topics shaping the future of veterinary education. The symposium features three key programs:

June 3: Spectrum of Care (SOC) Symposium—Addressing strategies to enhance veterinary graduates’ ability to practice along the spectrum of care.

June 4–5: Competency-Based Veterinary Education (CBVE) Summer Workshop—A deep dive into CBVE implementation, assessment, and best practices.

New Webinar to Focus on Suicide Prevention Messaging
Join us May 29 at 2 pm ET for a webinar focused on how to talk about suicide in ways that promote prevention and hope. Using the Framework for Successful Messaging as a foundation, the session will emphasize the often-overlooked "Positive Narrative" approach, which is particularly relevant in the veterinary field.
Attendees will also learn essential safe messaging guidelines to follow when communicating about suicide.
