ABA Announces Radio News Service
available during the COVID-19 outbreak
The Alabama Broadcasters Association has entered into a formal agreement with
WBHM-FM and it’s licensee, the University of Alabama at Birmingham, to provide two daily newscasts at no cost to Alabama radio stations. The content provided by WBHM will be focused on issues of interest or affecting Alabama or its residents.

The newscasts will be delivered via email by the ABA Monday through Friday at approximately 7:30am and 4:00pm. Each newscast will be between 00:01:30 and 00:02:30 in length and will include a Header and Footer. See below for content of those messages. In addition to these two newscasts, WBHM-FM will make longer news features available from time to time. You are welcome to use those under the same conditions as using the newscast.

Stipulations for use:

A. The WBHM supplied content is being provided to stations only for use for broadcast to listeners;

B.    Use and broadcast the content in compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations;

C. Broadcast each WBHM supplied content segment in its entirety within one (1) hour of WBHM’s making the content segment available;

D. Stations cannot excerpt or segment any portions of the content;

E. Stations cannot add commercials or other information within the content;

F. Stations must broadcast the header and the footer portion of the content in entirety.

NEWSCAST HEADER:

“STATION NAME, in collaboration with the Alabama Broadcasters Association and WBHM-FM in Birmingham bring you the following news update.”

WBHM will also provide a recording replacing STATION NAME with “THIS STATION” in the header so you do not have to modify the introduction.

 NEWSCAST FOOTER:

“The preceding newscast was produced by WBHM-FM in Birmingham as a public service through the Alabama Broadcasters Association and this station.”

BEFORE YOU CAN HAVE ACCESS TO THE WBHM PROVIDED CONTENT YOU MUST REPLY TO THIS EMAIL TO CONFIRM YOU AGREE TO THE TERMS OF THE AGREEMENT SIGNED BY ABA WITH WBHM/UAB AND AGREE TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY IMPROPER USE OF THE CONTENT BY YOUR STATION(S).

The first newscast was made available this morning, April 6. Please forward this email to Sharon Tinsley to receive the newscasts. List any call letters which will broadcast the content, your name and email address. The email you send will serve as acknowledgement that you will abide by the terms under which this service is being made available.
