Cathy's Corner: Content Ideas For Wedding Professionals
When you're up to your eyeballs with wedding details the last thing on your mind is coming up with content to post on your social media profiles! When you are pressed for time, here are some oldies, but goodies that always work:
- Client Testimonials (Share thank-you's and feedback from clients on top of a wedding photo.)
- Up and coming wedding trends (E.g. decor, food, fashion, flowers, colors, wedding ideas,...)
- Educational How-To's:
- How do you create a budget list?
- How do you come up with your guest list?
- You're engaged - now what?
- What speeches should you include at a wedding reception?
- How do you organize a seating chart?
- What are the different parts of wedding stationery you should consider?
- How early should you shop for your wedding dress?
- Wedding etiquette
- How to write your own vows
- Before and after (E.g. decor, hair and make-up, ...)
- Behind-The-Scenes (E.g. You working on your computer, designing a floorplan, coming up with a wedding day itinerary, loading your vehicle for a wedding, folding napkins, bustling the bride's dress, pinning on boutonnieres, ...)
- Vendor Recommendations - who are your favorite vendors and why
- Wedding ideas and inspiration (e.g. stationery, flowers, wedding attire, bridesmaids, decor ideas, QR codes for photos, guest book ideas,...)
- Introduce yourself and share why you love weddings
- Favorite wedding venues
- How did you get into the wedding industry
- Favorite moment of the wedding day
- Motivating or inspiring quote
The Magic of B-Roll
What is B-roll? The technical description of B-roll is video footage that isn't the main action. It's often captured to add detail to another video. (So what you're filming is actually not the main point of the video.) In social media, it is often a short 5 - 10 second video background that allows you share a point-of-view (POV) or other details. It simply serves as background while your text often becomes the main focal point of the post. Examples of B-roll might be ocean waves rolling up on the beach, drinking coffee from your favorite mug, the view as you drive somewhere in your car, eating at a restaurant, walking through a park, writing in your notebook, playing with your dog, doing yoga, ...
If you try and get in the habit of filming B-roll footage, it can make it easy to pull it up and add content to it to create a super-quick video/reel.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) Can Save The Day
Still stuck? If you're still unsure of what to post, ask AI (Artificial Intelligence) to help. Go to an app like ChatGPT and simply ask for some content ideas.
Prompt Idea 1: "As a professional wedding planner in the Chicago area, give me 30 days of content ideas that I could post about on Instagram that would appeal to newly engaged couples just getting started with wedding planning."
Prompt Idea 2: "As a wedding planner/caterer/photographer/officiant/venue/DJ (or whatever your specialty is) give me 30 days of content ideas that I could post to help attract newly engaged couples to my Instagram profile."
Some of them will be good. Some of them will not be so great. But there should be at least a few that that will help you get past the roadblock and allow you to come up with something to post.
Re-Use and Re-Purpose Previous Content
I've mentioned it before, but when you really have no time, look back and find a post that performed well and repost it. Edit the caption or update the details if necessary. You spent valuable time creating the post before. It won't hurt to use it again. Anything older than 3 months is fair game. (And it may even do better the second time around when you have a chance to perfect it even more.)
