A Message from the

Chief Executive Officer

Dear Friends and Supporters,

As we observe Mental Health Awareness Month this May, I want to take a moment to highlight an issue that lies at the very heart of our work here at ABC Recovery Center: the critical and complex intersection between mental health and substance use.

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, an estimated 7.7 million adults in the United States have co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. That means nearly 1 in 3 individuals who live with a mental illness also experience a substance use disorder at some point in their lives. These overlapping conditions are often deeply intertwined—sometimes one leads to the other, and sometimes both stem from shared risk factors such as trauma, genetics, or chronic stress.

At ABC Recovery Center, we see this overlap every day. Behind every statistic is a real person: a mother, a son, a colleague, a friend. That's why we continue to expand our services to address not only addiction, but also the emotional, psychological, and social challenges that accompany it. Our integrated care model brings together licensed mental health professionals, addiction counselors, and medical staff to provide compassionate, comprehensive treatment—because recovery is not just about sobriety, it's about healing the whole person.

We also recognize that stigma remains a barrier to seeking help. Far too often, individuals feel shame about their struggles or are dismissed as “just addicts” when they are, in fact, coping with layers of unaddressed trauma or depression. It is our mission to change that narrative—through care, through education, and through advocacy.

To our partners, alumni, and community supporters: thank you for standing with us. Together, we are building a stronger, more compassionate future—one that honors the full humanity of everyone we serve.

With gratitude and hope,

Chris Yingling

Lots of ABC's team gathered together to share lunch with a potluck that so many contributed to. It was a great opportunity to remember our shared mission is moved forward by everyone.

About forty clients participated in the Easter egg hunt. Staff from the Engagement and Events Committee hid over 600 eggs. There were six golden eggs which were redeemed for five mini baskets and one large basket, all containing a set of movie tickets that the clients can redeem upon completing treatment. Holiday fun for everyone!

Every month, the ABC Recovery Center team identifies our Rock Stars. This is a peer designation which makes it even more special. Rock Stars are member of our staff who are going above and beyond the expectations of their positions. They are making our mission happen and are integral to the important changes we are helping our clients make in their lives.

Monthly, staff are included in the request to nominate a Rock Star. They are asked what inspired them to nominate their peer and are provided six criteria to select from that apply to their nominee. The survey is tabulated, and the winners are announced by Human Resources.

Our February Rock Stars are Taylor Herd and Dulce Herrera pictured with their managers, Brock Jenikovsky and Joe Knyvett.

Taylor was hired in April of 2020 and since that time was promoted from a Behavioral Health Technician to a Clinical Assistant. Taylor's colleagues share that she consistently provides a high-quality performance and does an amazing job supporting the team.

Dulce Herrera was hired late last year in November as a receptionist and is already being recognized for her performance. Dulce's teammates say she's a very hard worker, stays positive at all times and that she's is always smiling, she is always willing to help.

Our March Rock Star is Eduardo Bautista. Eduardo is a behavioral health technician who came to work at ABC about a year ago in April 2024. Eduardo's colleagues shared that he is a strong swing shift employee and that he "continues to bring strength and commitment as a team player", additionally, he has a calm demeanor that clients need to be around". Eduardo is always helpful, smiling and happy.

Congratulations to all THREE of our rock stars!

Happy Birthday to our employees who are celebrating one more year around the sun in
