Cummings Foundation awards ABCD $100,000 to expand ESOL program, meet community needs
Acknowledging ABCD’s “important, impactful work,” the Cummings Foundation has awarded the anti-poverty organization a generous three-year $100,000 grant to expand its Adult ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) program. ABCD will establish an ESOL Summer Academy, providing the opportunity for students to continue their learning year-round.
With COVID restrictions lifted, ABCD Field of Dreams is back!
When the pandemic hit in 2020, ABCD shifted into high gear to meet the community’s escalating needs just as most everything else shut down. Including Fenway Park. For the first time in 22 years, ABCD’s iconic fundraising event, Field of Dreams, was canceled.

ABCD SummerWorks is joining forces with newly sworn-in Acting Mayor Kim Janey, the City of Boston, and more than 100 employer partners to help underserved youngsters, particularly those who have faced isolation and hardship brought on by the pandemic.
Talent-matching and job search success: from layoff to dream job
The 2020 ABCD Annual Report featured a story about Rachel Carle, a Danvers resident who was laid off in the early days of the pandemic. A senior director with a booming Cambridge company, she was 30 years into a satisfying career when suddenly everything changed. 

“When I lost my job, I didn’t know where to turn. I was panicking, afraid my husband and I would lose our house and everything we had worked for. All that changed when I connected with the Metro North Career Center,” Rachel said.

Having trouble paying rent?

Do you live in or want to move to Malden? Need help with rent? ABCD, in partnership with the City of Malden and the Malden Community Preservation Committee, introduces Malden Start Secure, a program that can help pay first and last month’s rent. ABCD also offers rental assistance to residents of Boston and Medford. Learn more at bostonabcd.org/relief.
