Congressional Committee Staff Sees ABC Institute's Impact Firsthand

Earlier this month, ABC Institute welcomed senior staff from the U.S. House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs to our Doral campus. Steve Gonzalez, Deputy Staff Director; Julia Trent, Chief Clerk; and Dominick Namias, Deputy Director of Coalitions, toured our tuition-free, hands-on apprenticeship programs in trades such as electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and fire sprinkler systems. They witnessed how ABCI prepares students for lifelong careers through real-world learning and 100% job placement. Special thanks to TC Wolfe for facilitating this important visit and helping spotlight the national impact of apprenticeship education.

ABC Institute Student's Voice Makes Headlines

Vladimir Sufra, a fourth-year Electrical Apprentice at ABC Institute and employee of Stryker Electrical Company in Palm City, recently shared his journey in an OpEd published by The Palm Beach Post. In the piece, he reflects on how his apprenticeship at ABCI offered him not just a job, but a life-changing opportunity. His story is a powerful testament to the hands-on, debt-free path that apprenticeship programs provide.

In his OpEd, Vladimir challenges the notion that a four-year college degree is the only route to success. He highlights how ABCI’s learn-and-earn model helped him achieve financial stability, confidence, and valuable skills, demonstrating that with proper training, apprenticeships can be the first and best step toward a rewarding career in construction.

ABC Cares Launches Mental Health App

ABC Cares Foundation, in partnership with behavioral health experts at the Harm Reduction Center (HARC), launched a groundbreaking mobile app to support the mental well-being of construction workers. This easy-to-use platform offers private, immediate access to licensed mental health professionals, tackling long-standing challenges like stigma, accessibility, and delays in care.

Through a QR codes posted at participating job sites, workers can discreetly connect with services including therapy, addiction counseling, case management, and psychiatric care. Virtual or in-person appointments can be arranged within 48 hours, all with complete confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.

This launch responds directly to a growing mental health crisis in the construction industry, where suicide and substance use rates far exceed national averages. By making care easier to access, this app reflects a strong commitment to worker safety and well-being. Coverage starting at $2.00 per month per employee.
