February 1: The BF9 (Business Forums -9) organized and held their annual joint event for the BF9 Summit and Exhibition. The event was previously BF6, but with the birth of the Lebanese, Portuguese, and Spanish business councils, the platform has now evolved to being BF9. February 8: AmCham Kuwait and the U.S. Embassy's Commercial Section hosted their quarterly event on ‘How to do Business with the U.S. Military’. The U.S. Military held presentations on the topic of drafting proposals, validating requirements, accessing major contracts, how to validate requirements and other opportunities. They also spoke about the new badging system for the bases. This quarterly series touches upon different scopes of doing business with the U.S. military and allows vendors to further understand the requirements of successfully obtaining and executing projects according to U.S. Military standards. ABK Announces Net Profit Growth of 19% in 2022

Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait (ABK) reported a net profit of KD 32.3 million in the financial year 2022. The increase in the net profit compared to the same period in 2021 was 19%. Net operating profit rose by 10% to a total KD 90.1 million, and earnings per share were 14 fils, compared to 12 fils the previous year. Total assets grew by 14% to KD 6.4 billion, customer deposits by 13% to KD 4.4 billion, and the loan portfolio increased by 19% to reach KD 4.04 billion. Read more...

Amideast and Boeing host aerospace workshops for kids in Kuwait

Amideast and Boeing have successfully completed a series of aerospace workshops for children in Kuwait. Thirty kids ages 8-12 attended the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) course in January-February 2023.

Kuwait’s budget surplus is likely to stabilize around KD 5 billion

KUWAIT: By the end of February 2023, the 11th month of the current fiscal year 2022/2023 ended with the monthly average price of Kuwaiti oil reaching $83.2 per barrel. It is $3.2 or 4 percent higher than the new hypothetical price of $80 estimated in the current budget ($65 before adjustment) and $38.2 higher than the average hypothetical price of $45 for the past fiscal year. Kuwait, US and UK forces hold ‘Liberation 2023’ military drill

KUWAIT: The joint military drill (the Liberation 2023) among Kuwait land forces, the US Spartan force and the Queen’s Dragoon Guards (QDG) ended on Thursday. The drill began on February 19 in the northern military base of Adare’e. In a statement, Kuwait’s General Staff of the Armed Forces said the drill is aimed at developing the joint planning, unifying concepts and achieving openness to raise combat readiness and the training level in order to enhance joint military cooperation between the Kuwaiti armed forces, and friendly American and British forces. MoH has no plans to cancel expat med fees

KUWAIT: The health ministry has no intention of backing away from the decision to impose fees on expats for receiving medicines, as it sees it is necessary to regulate mechanisms behind dispensing medicine and supervising it.

He said Dhaman has fulfilled the construction requirements as part of preparations for operation and to start serving the beneficiaries. He pointed out: “Without a doubt, Dhaman’s operation of its system — which provides a new and advanced model in healthcare through its multiple facilities — is a step in the right direction. Widespread virus affecting companies and individuals in Kuwait

110 projects to be implemented at KD 837m during fiscal ’23/’24

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 12: Official figures issued by the Ministry of Finance revealed the inclusion of about 110 development projects planned during the fiscal year 2023-2024 at a total cost estimated at 837.2 million dinars. The document, a copy of which has been obtained by Al-Qabas daily, revealed that 55 projects of ministries and government departments expected to start implementation at a total cost of 264 million dinars, the share of construction projects is 235.2 million dinars, while about 44 projects are included in the budgets of social and economic services at a cost 259.5 million dinars, while the number of public services and defense budget projects are 11, at a cost of 4.9 million dinars, all of them nonconstruction. Kuwait Oil Company awards $176 million maintenance contracts

Kuwait Oil Co (KOC) has awarded two local companies contracts to provide maintenance services for key oil facilities with a combined value of around $176.2 million, Zawya Projects reported, citing a report from Arabic language daily Alanba. 

KOC, which manages the OPEC producer’s upstream industry, awarded a 74.6 million maintenance service contract for its facilities in South and East Kuwait to Bader Almulla and Brothers Co. Read more...

U.S. Department of Education Announces More Than $188 Million from the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act to Support Mental Health and Student Wellness

Today, the U.S. Department of Education (Department) is announcing awards of more than $188 million across 170 grantees in over 30 states to increase access to school-based mental health services and to strengthen the pipeline of mental health professionals in high-needs districts. With funding provided by the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (BSCA), these investments help advance the President’s Mental Health Strategy, which directly implements his Unity Agenda priority to tackle the mental health crisis in our school communities. These grants will enable communities to hire approximately 5,400 school-based mental health professionals and train an estimated 5,500 more to build a diverse pipeline of mental health providers in schools. USDA Invests More than $48.6 Million to Manage Risks, Combat Climate Change

WASHINGTON, Feb. 21, 2023 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will invest more than $48.6 million this year through the Joint Chiefs’ Landscape Restoration Partnership for projects that mitigate wildfire risk, improve water quality, restore forest ecosystems, and ultimately contribute to USDA’s efforts to combat climate change. This year, the USDA Forest Service and Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) will invest in projects, including 14 new projects, bringing together agricultural producers, forest landowners, and National Forest System lands to improve forest health using available Farm Bill conservation programs and other authorities. FORT BELVOIR, Va.  –  A new capability in ServiceNow will help streamline agreement processes and reporting requirements for interagency financial transactions at the Defense Logistics Agency.
