Oil price rally in Q2 and lockdown easing see economic conditions improve
A recovery in oil prices, an easing of lockdown measures and the gradual reopening of businesses and malls have somewhat improved Kuwait’s economic conditions over recent weeks. Nevertheless, with a partial curfew still in place, many businesses operating at below capacity and international travel heavily restricted, the economy still has a long way to go before a return to more ‘normal’ pre-virus levels of activity.

DGCA introduces Kuwait – Mosafer App for all Travelers
The Directorate General for Civil Aviation (DGCA) in Kuwait has introduced a new web-based application called “Kuwait – Mosafer” (kuwaitmosafer.com) for the convenience of all travelers departing from and arriving to Kuwait post August 1. Kuwait will be the first airport in the region to leverage technology to implement a single platform to assist travelers in fulfilling Covid-19 travel requirements ahead of time, thus reducing queuing at the airport as well as other disruptions.

Solar powered gas station opens in Abdali
The Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) announced Monday the inauguration of a new fuel station in Al-Abdali area. The station is distinguished with modern design, using solar energy technology which saves 30 percent of its electrical needs, KNPC added. Moreover, Al-Abdali station is among 18 stations that are under construction. Eight stations were opened in the areas of Jaber Al-Ahmad, north west Sulaibikhat and Sabah Al-Ahmad.

WASHINGTON — The Treasury Department and the IRS released a proposed redesigned partnership form for tax year 2021 (filing season 2022). The proposed form is designed to provide greater clarity for partners on how to compute their U.S. income tax liability with respect to items of international tax relevance including claiming deductions and credits. The redesigned form and instructions provide guidance to partnerships on how to report international tax information to their partners in a standardized format.

Kuwaiti Al-Ahmadi refinery projects
Kuwait has pre-qualified six global firms to bid for projects to be executed at its Al-Ahmadi oil refinery. Bidding will close on Sept 24 for the contract which involves projects to be undertaken by the state owned
Kuwait National Petroleum Company
(KNPC).The six companies include
Fluor
, Parsons, and KBR of the US as well as Amec Fosters Wheeler of the UK, Japan's Toyo Company, and France's
Technip.
"KNPC will hold an online meeting with representatives of the pre-qualified firms to discuss their bids for the projects," the paper said, adding that projects at Al-Ahmadi comprise the 5th gasline, the clean fuel project, and construction of new facilities.

Representatives of the Kuwait Gulf Oil Company (KGOC) and Saudi Arabian Chevron held a virtual meeting on Thursday to discuss the production rates of the onshore Wafra Oilfield in the Partitioned Zone (PZ). The MENA region recorded an increase in IPO volume and value during the first quarter of 2020, with four IPOs raising $814.2m, the Ernst & Young’s MENA IPO Eye Report revealed. This represents a 14-fold increase compared to the $57.6m raised from one IPO in the same period last year. Meanwhile, Kuwait strengthened its capital markets with the privatisation of its stock exchange in December 2019 and the introduction of the BK Main 50 Index.
