On February 8th, Lidia Font departed to eternity. She no longer suffers and is now
rejoicing in the presence of God.
She was born in Asuncion, Paraguay, on July 23rd, 1935. From her early youth, she sensed a call to the vocation of teaching. Every Sunday, as an adolescent, she visited neighborhoods in Asuncion, teaching children’s classes under the supervision of a missionary.
At 18, she enrolled in the International Theological Baptist Seminary in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She graduated in 1956 and was called as a local missionary at the Baptist church in Villa Lynch, Buenos Aires. One year later, in January 1958, she married Eduardo Font, also a recent seminary graduate. Lidia was a mother to three daughters (Eunice, Edelyn, and Esther) and a grandmother to two grandchildren (Candace and Matthew). She possessed an engaging and lovely personality.
In 1960, she immigrated to the United States, accompanied by her husband, who came to study. She partnered with him in pastoring a church in Riverside, CA, and planting 3 churches in Southern California. She continued her studies at West Los Angeles College, UCLA, California State University, Pepperdine University and LaVerne University. Her specialties were bilingual education and school administration. She excelled in teaching, with a 25-year career as an educator at Manual Arts High School within the Los Angeles Magnet Program. She received honors and recognitions from both the Superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified
School District and the former mayor of Los Angeles, Tom Bradley.
In addition to her dedication to teaching, she was very active in local churches. She was a Sunday school teacher, supporter of the Youth Ministry, preacher and worship pianist. She also did not stop supporting and cooperating with regional organizations such as Baptist Women and Youth for many years.
We are grateful to our Lord for the life and legacy that she left to many women and leaders in our region. Her example of service, love and compassion for the saints inspires all blessed to know her. We will be praying for Dr. Eduardo Font and his family.
