Creation Justice and International Women’s Day:
Join us for an Everyday ABC Conversation
| |
Join us on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. EST on Zoom with presenters Dr. Alan R. Wedgewood and Rev. Rebecca Driscoll, ABC Creation Justice Network.
Every day we have the opportunity to be in prayerful conversation with God. What is God saying to each of us about how we have cared for God’s creation? Which of God’s children are bearing the greatest injustices caused by our failure to be good caretakers of our Earth? As we gather for this conversation on International Women’s Day, we will reflect on how environmental degradation has disproportionately impacted women, as well as the ways women have been a prophetic voice for creation justice and restoration. How has the cry of God’s creation moved you, your church, and/or your community to respond? Please join members of the Creation Justice Network in conversation as we ponder how we can work together to create a sustainable home for future generations and learn more about the ministry of the Creation Justice Congregations program.

Recording Online: Watch a Special Prayer Service Held in Observance of One-Year Anniversary of Military Coup in Burma | |
American Baptist Churches USA and the American Baptist Churches Burma Refugee Commission in January issued a Call to Prayer for Burma (Myanmar) for a special prayer service held on Tuesday, February 1 to observe the anniversary of the military coup in Burma.
Tuesday, February 1, 2022 marked the one-year anniversary of the military coup in Burma (Myanmar). Since February 1, 2021, because of the military takeover, nearly 1500 civilians and civil leaders have been killed, 9000 have been arrested or sentenced and 450,000 have become internally displaced persons. In addition to this, many churches from various religious backgrounds, including Baptist churches with deep mission ties to our American Baptist churches, were burned. As COVID raged during this time of turmoil, thousands of people have contracted COVID and needed humanitarian and medical aid. In the midst of this crisis in Myanmar, many groups, including the ABC Burma Refugee Commission, have worked together in advocacy for democracy and human rights.
Interested persons may view the prayer service here.

ABC of New York State Offers Conference Resource
The majority of American Baptist Churches of New York State (ABCNYS) churches are served by part-time pastors. Some churches have experienced this model of ministry for many years, and others are just discovering this way of calling a pastor. Common questions ABCNYS staff are asked about part-time pastors include: How does this really work for the church and the pastor? Is it part-time pay and full-time expectations? Can a pastor and a church work together well in this model of ministry?
In October 2021, ABCNYS offered a conference on part-time ministry and how churches and pastors can THRIVE in this model of ministry. Now, we are pleased to offer the video from these sessions facilitated by Rev. Steve Reynolds (4T I40 Consulting) and shaped by the recent book "Part Time Is Plenty: Thriving Without Full-Time Clergy," a very helpful book written by part-time pastor G. Jeffrey MacDonald (Westminster/John Knox Press, 2021).
You can find these recordings on the region's webpage: Part Time Ministry in Upstate New York - American Baptist Churches of New York State (abc-nys.org) and YouTube channel: Part Time Ministry: Part Time is Plenty - YouTube. PowerPoint slides to accompany these sessions are available at the webpage link so you can follow along with the videos.
This ministry is made possible by contributions to the 2022 ABCNYS Region Offering and a grant from the American Baptist Foundation.
