NCC Governing Board Approves Updated Edition of the NRSV Bible, Holds Historic Elections

The Governing Board of the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA (NCC) met virtually for its biannual board meeting on October 13, 2021. At the meeting, the NCC Governing Board approved the Updated Edition of the New Revised Standard Version (NRSVue) of the Bible, which is considered the most meticulously researched, rigorously reviewed, and faithfully accurate English-language Bible translation.


Rev. Dr. A. Roy Medley, general secretary emeritus of American Baptist Churches USA, was involved in the work on the revision in his role as president of Friendship Press, a subsidiary of the NCC, which will publish the NRSVue. The NRSVue will be available through the Word@Hand app here. Licensees may release NRSV Updated Editions of the Bible on or after May 1, 2022.


Also for the first time in its 71-year history, the NCC Governing Board elected all women as officers. The officers began their two-year terms effective October 13. Learn more.
