Rejoice!
By Dr. Patricia Murphy
Ecclesiastical Endorser and ABHMS National Coordinator  of Chaplaincy and Specialized Ministries

And Mary said, "My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant. Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for the Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name. His mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation. He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts. He has brought down the powerful from their thrones, and lifted up the lowly; he has filled the hungry with good things, and sent the rich away empty. He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, according to the promise he made to our ancestors, to Abraham and to his descendants forever." And Mary remained with Elizabeth about three months and then returned to her home.
-- Luke 1:46-56

Dear Colleagues in Ministry!
Greeting to you during this glorious season of joy and celebration!

As we reflect upon what this Advent season means for the world, let us pause and rejoice as Mary rejoiced! It is for certain that Mary rejoices for what God has done for her and for others.

With great joy I serve you as your newly appointed ecclesiastical endorser. We were well served by the leadership of Dr. Jeffrey Haggray. We rejoice today because, on Oct. 3, Dr. Haggray, through prayer and discernment, was led to entrust me with this most honorable appointment.

I celebrate each endorsed chaplain, pastoral counselor, spiritual director and others serving in specialized ministry roles and settings. I avail to be the ear that hears you, the voice to advocate for you and the knee that bends in prayer for you daily!

Alice Mitchell-Cross continues to serve as the administrative coordinator for American Baptist Home Mission Societies' (ABHMS) Chaplaincy and Specialized Ministries.

As transitions and changes continue, we are excited to share the following new updates with you:
  • ABHMS has moved! Our new address is 1075 First Ave., King of Prussia, PA 19406.
  • Our new toll-free telephone number is 888-79-ABHMS. Phone numbers of individual staff members remain the same.
  • Please send all inquiries by email to endorsements@abhms.org.
  • At its Space for Grace conference in November, ABHMS introduced ministrElife, an online platform that ABHMS specially developed for American Baptist ministry professionals and lay leaders, including chaplains, pastoral counselors and others in specialized ministry. This new platform is awesome! It allows us a new way to connect and expand our ministry reach. It also allows the creation of podcasts and webinars that will enrich your ministry praxis and so much more.
I invite you to visit ministrElife today and to register. If you have an ABPS profile, you can register with the e-mail address that you submitted when you completed your profile. If you have any questions or comments about ministrElife, please give me a call!

May the joy of Jesus during this Advent season be your strength! Celebrate!  Rejoice!

With life-transforming grace,
Dr. Patricia Murphy
