Announcing the NEW CAQ in Podiatric Sports Medicine!
The American Board of Podiatric Medicine is announcing the development of a new Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Podiatric Sports Medicine. A Certificate of Added Qualification is a step beyond Board Certification and recognizes knowledge, expertise, and experience in a specialty. This Podiatric Sports Medicine CAQ will join ABPM's other CAQ in Amputation Prevention and Wound Care.
Why does the ABPM offer a CAQ?
After listening to feedback from Diplomates, it was evident there was a need for a certificate of added qualification (CAQ) in Podiatric Sports Medicine provided by a Podiatric Certifying Board.

Do other Certifying Boards offer CAQs?
Yes, the American Board of Medical Specialties has over 125 CAQs available for providers to set themselves apart from other providers within their specialties.

Eligibility criteria to sit for the exam will be:

Primary board certification:
  • By a JCRSB-recognized board

Experience (one of the following):
  • Completion of a 12-month CPME-approved fellowship in Podiatric Sports Medicine
  • Documentation that the applicant is a team podiatrist or consultant to a sports organization
  • Case documentation process to demonstration expertise

The first CAQ exam will administered on March 9, 2022 and the application process will open in October of 2021.

The American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine (AAPSM) will serve as the educational resource for the CAQ. Current Fellows of the AAPSM will be granted advanced standing in the CAQ if they apply before December 31, 2022.
