December 2018
A Note from the Editor - Dr. Nicole DeLauro

Happy Holidays and best wishes for the New Year! You are approaching the half way point of the residency year, and I hope you are taking advantage of all your program has to offer. I am happy to announce the updated ABPM App is available for download! Please be sure to delete your old App as this new one will replace it. Again, I encourage you to download and utilize the "Pathology Specific Biomechanical Exams" for your EHRs. Be sure to check out our "Clinical Skills" feature, and our Director spotlight. ABPM is always working to make your resident experience better and would love to come and lecture to your program. Encourage your directors to request a speaker from our Speaker's Bureau. It is easily accessible from the ABPM website. Cheers to 2019!

Owning and Operating a Successful Private Practice in Today's Healthcare Climate
by Dr. Daniel T. Hall IV

With the ever-mounting changes in healthcare and how physicians practice, I wanted to share my experience as a young owner of a private practice. While this may seem like a distant goal, you may be contemplating this type of practice structure.

In today's day to day work environment, it is imperative to know the obstacles you may face. The number of today's solo practitioners are dwindling in favor of hospital-based employment, multi-specialty groups and/or larger podiatry groups. This could be due to the vast amount of responsibility put upon the doctor.  It is no wonder we are seeing reports of physician burn-out at an all-time high. So how does one successfully manage all of these variables and still provide the highest quality of medical care to our patients as a solo practitioner? The answer is simple. Evolve.
