The Government of Alberta is Requesting Input on the 2020-21 Budget

Albertans are invited to share their opinions and suggestions for the upcoming budget. An online survey with questions on Albertans’ spending and saving priorities, as well as ideas for job creation and growing Alberta’s economy, is open until Feb. 7th .

Teaming up with yoga studios in Airdrie on Saturday, February 22 the Shop Local team are encouraging as many people as possible to check out special yoga classes across the city. Yoga has real benefits for our bodies and minds. It is a great date activity, great for distressing, or perfect for family fun. Personal Tax Form Changes

The basic personal amount has increased. Make sure your payroll systems are up-to-date!

The federal basic personal amount for most Canadians increased on January 1, 2020. The changes will mean that by 2023, most Canadians will pay no federal taxes on the first $15,000 they earn (this is an increase from $12,069).

If you manage and/or are responsible for payroll, these changes can affect how you calculate deductions and contributions on employees’ pay.

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) can help ensure you have the right information. We have updated the following payroll references on Canada.ca with the new basic personal amount for 2020:

The CRA has a number of resources to assist you in calculating deductions and contributions on employee pay, opening a payroll account to send deductions, and reporting income deductions.
