Annual Kol Nidre Appeal
It was so moving to be all together under one roof for Rosh Hashanah for the first time since fall of 2019.
Though our membership is now back to where it was pre-Covid, dues and rental income are not enough to cover the costs of serving our members. We rely on Kol Nidre donations - to pay our clergy, educators and office staff, as well as the maintenance and security workers. Kol Nidre donations also keep our lights on and our boiler humming.
Please consider making a meaningful donation to sustain our communal Jewish home. Click here to donate to our annual Kol Nidre appeal.

READ THE WRITING ON OUR WALLS
|
|
Next time you enter Ansche Chesed, perhaps tomorrow for Shabbat or Yom Tov, read the words on our 100th Street lobby walls and remember what Ansche Chesed, the Community of Kindness, stands for.
|
|
It has been told to you, human being, what is good, and what God demands of you: only doing justice, loving-kindness and walking humbly with your God. (Micah 6:8)
|
|

Rabbi Kalmanofsky writes: There are so many commandments – 613, in fact! How do all they all fit together? Our Talmudic Sages mined the Bible for watchwords to explain how the mitzvot should shape our characters. Among the candidates they consider is the three-term essence distilled by the prophet Micah [6.8]: It has been told to you human being what is good and what God demands of you: only do justice, love kindness and walk humbly. We inscribed this verse on our new lobby so that every time people enter our synagogue they will be reminded:
Asot Mishpat / Do the right thing. Treat people as they deserve.
Ahavat Hesed / Love! Overflow with goodwill toward others.
Hatze’a Lekhet / Be Humble. It’s not about you. Your individual life is part of a much larger whole.

Tuesdays, 7:30-9pm on the 5th Floor
Shirei Chesed Community Chorus continues to build community through learning a rich and diverse repertoire of Jewish music, bringing harmony into a world that needs it more than ever. To enable us to sing together safely, all participants will be required to submit proof of vaccination, and masking will be required for indoor rehearsals.
Our 4-part chorus brings together lovers of choral singing from both Ansche Chesed and the wider Jewish community. Our recent performances include classical programs with The Bachanalia String Orchestra, a jazz concert with The Afro-Semitic Experience ensemble, Oratorio Souls on Fire based on the book by Elie Wiesel, a celebration of Jewish Love Songs from around the world, performed both at AC and at the Curtis Institute of Music, and a collaboration with the Grammy-nominated vocal sextet The Western Wind.
Ability to carry a tune is important; reading Hebrew or music is not required; Tuesdays 7:30-9:00pm. Free for Ansche Chesed members; non-members pay $90 per semester or $180 per year. For more information, or to schedule an audition, please email NHirschhorn@AnscheChesed.org.

Ansche Chesed Refugee Assistance
|
|
ACRA was created to respond to the world refugee crisis. Over the past six months, we have helped 4 family cohorts—a total of 10 people—who have fled violence to rebuild their lives in the US. We would like to extend our work to others in need.
Our experience shows that we need to raise an additional $40,000 - and increase our volunteer pool - to comfortably commit to sponsor an additional family and continue supporting those already in the ACRA “family.” For that, we need your help!
To become more involved, please reach out to us here.
|
|
The Chesed Chevra empowers our congregants to fulfill the mitzvah of helping community members who are in need by performing acts of loving-kindness. Our aim is to ensure that all shul members who are experiencing a life event such as the birth of a child, illness, or loss feel supported by the Ansche Chesed community.
How to get involved:
-
Volunteer to help! You can make a difference within your community in just five minutes a week. Please email us to get involved at chesed@anschechesed.org.
-
Let us help you! As a beloved member of our community, we would like to be there for you whenever you need support. Please contact the clergy or email us at chesed@anschechesed.org.
-
Make a gift! Contribute here toward the Rabbi's Discretionary Fund to ensure there are resources to provide support to members in need.
