Are You Sending Constituent Focused Communications?

When you send communications to your constituents, what is your focus? Are you telling them how busy you are? Or are you telling them how their world will be improved by the work you do? Threats to Higher Education in the Wake of COVID-19

Hosted by the Border Legislative Conference (BLC), this recent addition to the Legislative Exchange Series provided an opportunity to learn about the impacts the pandemic has had on higher education and, more specifically, binational education programs. Joined by panelists from the education sectors of both the U.S. and Mexico, participants heard about challenges faced and opportunities harnessed during these challenging times with a key focus on funding, equity and safety concerns. Governors Work to Save Native Fish
On October 5, the Governors of Idaho, Oregon, Montana and Washington pledged to create a collaborative public process to save the struggling native fish stocks of the Columbia River Basin. In their joint statement the states commit to working together to rebuild fish stocks and advance the goals of the Columbia Basin Partnership Task Force. To learn more, click below.
U.S. Supreme Court Updates
Ballot Collection Extension Struck Down
In a recent decision, the U.S. Supreme Court left in place a nine-day extension to count absentee ballots in North Carolina. Ballots postmarked on or before election day may be counted if received up to nine days after the election. Click below to read more about the opinions and their potential impact to states.
Is the ACA Unconstitutional?

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) has fostered robust and sometimes heated debate since its implementation. Those opposed to the ACA have sought to dismantle it while proponents have worked to secure it. Although the U.S. Supreme Court has previously heard arguments pertaining to the ACA, recent changes by Congress have landed the issue back in the highest court of the land. CSG National Conference Reimagined
The COVID-19 pandemic has put meeting in person on hold, but learning and collaboration are still a priority for CSG. Members are invited to join virtual sessions addressing a variety of topics important to states and their ongoing efforts from now through December 18.
COVID-19 State Emergency Measures
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic NEMA has provided data updates on state emergency measures. With the number of positive cases on the rise in many states, a number of additional actions are being taken. These include rolling back from Phase 3, strict closure times for businesses, reduction in restaurant capacities, and lowering numbers for private gatherings.
