Marcia O’Conner, is currently the administrator at Choctaw Memorial Hospital and has been in the medical profession for 30 years. The hospital, dedicated to providing quality health care to Choctaw County, has 139 staff members and 34 beds. The facility offers programs such as pain management, Telestroke, ER services and general surgery. Surgery
The Surgery Department at Choctaw Memorial Hospital (CMH) has a staff with 37 years of combined experience. This includes surgeons and one certified registered nurse anesthetist, three RNs and three operating room technicians. The staff resides locally and is familiar with most of the faces they see. They take great pride in their profession and strive to make each patient feel that they are in the best hands before, during, and after care. They work closely with local physicians to ensure continuity of care with patients as it relates to pre-existing health issues.
Respiratory Therapy
Respiratory therapy is another service provided by Choctaw Memorial Hospital to meet the needs of patients whose pulmonary capabilities are either temporarily or permanently impaired. This service is provided by trained respiratory specialists in a professional, courteous, and continuous manner by mechanical or physical means to assist physicians and nursing services personnel to improve patient conditions. Physical Therapy
Choctaw Memorial Hospital has a contracted relationship with Legacy Physical Therapy. Locally, this clinic has a satellite office in Hugo, Oklahoma, which is conveniently located nearby. Certified physical therapists and physical therapy aides provide excellent inpatient physical therapy services to patients, and can also provide outpatient services on a referral from their physician or primary health care provider. The relationship with the staff from this group supports quality care and easy access to services for patients who may otherwise find it difficult to find physical therapy services in a small, rural community.
Mammograms
A mammogram is a low-dose x-ray of breasts. It can detect many breast changes that are too small or too deep to feel. Today’s mammograms are considered safe, quick, and relatively painless. They are available through a doctor’s order. Choctaw Memorial Hospital’s mammography program is accredited by the American College of Radiology. They evaluate mammography units for equipment, quality, staff qualifications, quality of image, and amount of patient exposure to radiation. Breast cancer is the most common cancer that a woman may have to face (excluding skin cancer). It can occur at any age, but it is much more likely to occur after age 40. Yearly mammograms are recommended starting at age 40 and continuing for as long as a woman is in good health. It is recommneded that all women in their 20s and 30s have a breast exam by a doctor as part of their regular health checkups at least once every three years and every year after age 40. Women at increased risk (for example, those with a family history, genetic tendency, or past breast cancer) should talk with their doctors about the benefits and limitations of starting mammograms earlier.
Radiology
Choctaw Memorial Hospital’s Radiology Department is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Diagnostic radiology, mammography, abdominal ultrasound, vascular ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), and MRI services are provided to patients. All radiologist services are provided via teleradiology by Diagnostic Imaging Services in Tulsa, Oklahoma. CMH’s radiology department is fully accredited by state and federal entities including through ACR (American College of Radiology), and is credentialed as a Diagnostic Imaging Department. Laboratory Medicine
“Providing quality and timely testing to the people of Choctaw County and neighboring areas” is the motto for the Laboratory Department. CMH laboratory offers a wide range of testing to emergency, inpatient and outpatient service providers and to the patients served 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Staffed with fully qualified clinical laboratory professionals with years of expertise in the field of laboratory medicine, CMH laboratory performs testing in major areas of the clinical laboratory including hematology, coagulation, chemistry, serology, and immunology, utilizing its state-of-the-art equipment and information systems. The Director of Laboratory Services holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology with expertise in Clinical Laboratory and is certified through the American Medical Technologists certification program.
