The CDC's Eviction Moratorium is still in place, protecting renters from eviction for nonpayment of rent during the COVID pandemic. But a Federal Judge created quite a disruption on May 5 when she ruled against the CDC’s Order, blocking the protection for renters, nationwide. The Biden Administration’s Justice Department immediately appealed the Judge’s ruling and sought an Emergency Order to put her decision on hold. The Judge agreed to the hold, giving the plaintiffs until May 12 to file the necessary paperwork opposing the delay. In the meantime, individuals can still use the CDC Declaration Form to prevent an eviction for nonpayment of rent during COVID, and seek out rental assistance to help pay overdue rent. We explain what happened in our featured video.
